Freebie WordPress’ Scams
-
It’s not a question, it’s an opinion. There are no freebies on wordpress. Freebie or free version is a scammy buzzword to ultimately force you to buy the professional/full version. Because once you install so called “free version” it turns out to be one of two things. The first is that the amenities you see with the preview are actually available after you buy the full version (usually for $50 minimum) or the documentation installation that is supposed to lead to the same look as the site in the preview is only available after you buy the full version. Scam based on thousands of affiliate sites leading to sales pages. Nothing more. It’s sad because the last time I used wordpress was 15 years ago and it used to look quite different. Have a nice day/night guys.

The account you are posting from is barely an hour old. WordPress.com has been around since 2006 or so. Personally, I don’t know any software that has remained the same as it was 15 years ago. (Well, with one possible exception, Notepad.)
my 2¢/ There are thousands, likely hundreds of thousands, of WordPress.com websites that are on the free plan and still publishing without purchasing anything. The caveat is that when you sign up for a free site you also give WordPress.com permission to run ads on your free site to help offset their costs of hosting and maintenance. The version used by free sites is not a “preview” of the full software; it is the full software, which is regularly updated and secured behind the scenes by WordPress.com support.
If you want more features, like being able to use a custom domain as the primary address for your site or use CSS or Styles, then, yes, you pay for those added features, which also removes all WordPress.com advertising and gives you extra storage space and additional media files you can upload.
So while I can sympathize that things have changed, there is a lot you can do with the free version, like write your life story, a book, sports news, create a newsletter, whatever, without spending anything other than on your internet access and device. /my2¢
