    Hi!

My domain expired and I wish to use it elsewhere but it is locked in wordpress.

When can I register my domain with a different registrar? how can I speed up this process?

    thank you in advance,

    Alex

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

how can I speed up this process?

Renew it with WordPress.COM if it is not too far expired, if it is in Redemption the Registrar has a penalty (standard all over the internet) and WordPress.COM just passes the cost through.

Else it can take up to 60 days from date of expiration for a domain to be released to the wild to be bought again

NOTE: the Registrar is not required to release the name, they might buy it for their own account, it might be auctioned off, the name could be bought by a squatter and held for ransom, or someone else could get in line ahead of you and buy the domain name

    Hey Alex –

Which domain are you referring to? I see you’ve had at least three.

    Hi Bruce,

The domain is Undaze.com, but unfortunately I cannot pay $80 dollars to renew it. I would like to keep it, but if someone kidnaps as it is expiring I will just have to find a new name. If there would be a possibility to solve this it would be great.

    Hey Alex –

Yeah, unfortunately you missed it by just a couple of days. The $80 fee isn’t imposed by us, it goes directly to the Registrar – a standard fee. If you can’t pay it, you’ll likely have to wait around 90 days to find out if you’ll be able to get it back at the standard registration cost.

Thank you again Bruce, and thank you also Auxclass,

I will check back in 90 days, but I’ll just go for a new name and a new blog. :)

    cheers,

    A.

    You are welcome

Note on the 90 day thing – sometimes things happen quicker (my name I got 60 days I think after it expired – so check a couple of times a week with a whois to see if it has reverted to the wild
