Freezing account possible?

    Hi,
Is it possible to freeze my account until I am free enough to resume writing?

    Thanks a bunch,
    Rachel

    Hi,

Do you mean to suspend a paid account for a period of time?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

    Yes, that’s what I mean.

I don’t know about that. I’ve added a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic to call for staff attention.

    @rachelohanlon24:

It’s not really possible to “freeze” an account. If you don’t want folks to be able to visit your site, you could set it to private: https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

However, I’d recommend just keeping the site accessible. You could even publish a post, letting your readers know you’re taking a break!

Many people take a break, most that do just stop writing – some will put a new Post up when they start writing and explain the break, some say as noted above that they are taking a break from writing

Keeping the site open is the best as setting to Private slams the door in peoples face and many consider that rude and won’t come back (search engines also stay away) – I have had friends that take breaks on their sites – no big deal – if you are not having fun you are not doing it right

    @ chrisrudzki, @ auxclass,

It was my understanding that the intention was to “freeze” the clock on the lifespan of the paid account, thus preserving the present balance of time left before expiration, if possible.

@musicdoc1 – I was a bit confused about that which is why I did not answer early – but they will still need to pay and renew the custom domain name & domain mapping to keep the custom domain active – no sort of putting those charges on vacation – as long as they don’t delete the site the contents will be safe and not get deleted

I don’t know what upgrade they are using – but the Domain Name Registration and Domain Mapping are standalone upgrades so if they have a more expensive upgrade they can downgrade a bit and save some money

Even if you're taking a break from blogging you should mainta

How frequently you post is not an issue. The domain mapping upgrade cannot be “frozen” and reactivated at a future time. There is no ability to “freeze” any upgrade here.

Whoops sorry about that. Replied by email and hit the send button before seeing the new replies.

    OK-that was weird.

I posted a reply by email and only part of it came through and there’s another reply by email on it’s way apologizing for repeating what others had said. What I said was “even if you’re taking a break from blogging you should maintain you should maintain your domain name upgrade, otherwise you may lose it and not be able to get it back.”

So I think we’ve pretty much covered the domain name upgrade/mapping upgrade issues. :)
