Freshly Pressed: Best time and day to publish?
-
I’ve been wanting to discuss this with my fellow WordPress.com bloggers for a long time now. I don’t know if this type of discussion belongs in the Ideas forum, but I don’t know where else to go to discuss it.
The idea I want to bounce around all of y’all is if the time of day (and day of week) that a post is published has anything to do with its chances of getting Freshly Pressed.Obviously, it doesn’t matter when you decide to publish if it isn’t a quality post. But in theory, if you wrote something that was truly Freshly Press-able, do you think a certain day of the week, and time of day, would increase the likelihood that those who scour the tags for FP articles will find it? It would be hard to believe that they actually browse through every single post that shows up on the tag pages every day. So ostensibly, there are articles out there that are worthy of being Freshly Pressed, but aren’t because no one from Automattic ever found them.
So in theory, you would want to publish the post during a time when more bloggers are reading articles rather than publishing them. You wouldn’t want to post during a time of day when everyone else is posting, as your article will quickly be relegated to the abyss of the tag pages, but you also don’t want to post during a time of day that the fine folks who search for FP material aren’t working. So in my head, posting early in the morning is good because you know the Automattic employees are just starting their day, but on the other hand, it’s also the time most bloggers are publishing (I think). Publishing late at night would be good for overall visibility, in that less other bloggers are publishing, and there are probably more <i>readers</i> searching the tags, but not necessarily someone looking for FP material that late at night.
You’re probably laughing at how much thought I’m putting into this. But I just wanted to see if anyone else has ever thought about this concept. Getting on FP is way out of the control of any blogger, I know that. I like that it isn’t submission based. But the idea that I might post something that <i>would</i> be freshly pressed if found by someone from WP.com, but isn’t because it slipped too far into the tags before they started looking through them that day, is quite depressing lol.
I know I sound crazy for thinking this far into it, but I’m interested to see if any of my fellow bloggers have had similar obsessive thoughts regarding when the optimal time of day is to publish an article you think is FP material. I hope I’m not the only one >_< lol

I kind of wondered how freshly pressed worked…I still don’t really know. It’s like magic or luck.
