Freshly Pressed; clarifications please..

Suppose I wrote an awesome post and WordPress decided to choose it for Freshly Pressed.

In such a situation, won’t I get an e-mail alerting me the fact that my post is chosen for Freshly Pressed? I believe that I would receive such an email (correct me otherwise).

Anyway, what I wanted to ask is, suppose due to some personal reasons, I don’t want that post to appear on Freshly Pressed. So, how do I prevent it from making it to Freshly Pressed?? Would replying something like “Please don’t Freshly Press that post!” to the email which I get from WordPress do the trick? If not, how else can I do it?

Thank you very much in advance!

Five Ways to Get Featured on Freshly Pressed
    (1) email notification

Once you’ve been promoted, you’ll receive an email from us, and you’ll also notice your page views and comments increasing. Enjoy the ride! You deserve it!

    (2) You can’t prevent any post in a public WordPress.com blog from being selected by Staff. The only feasible means of not being in the array of posts from 25 million blogs is to change your blog visibility to “private“.

My privacy settings is set to ‘Ask search engines not to index this site.’

    Would that favor me?

    Do you mean option 2?

I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors – If you want all human visitors to be able to read your blog, but want to block web crawlers for search engines, this is the setting for you.

If so then “yes” it seems to me that will leave your blog posts out of the selection.

Now suppose, my blog was in PRIVATE when I published the post, but a few days later, I change my privacy setting to ‘Ask search engines not to index this site.’

Would that prevent the post from making it to Freshly Pressed?

I suggest you contact Staff for an answer. Here’s the link http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ After you use the searchbox, under the search results, at the bottom of the page there will be a section that says “Have you found the answer to your question?” You can choose either “Yes I found the answer to my question.” or “No I didn’t find the answer to my question and I would like to contact support for help.” The no option will reveal the contact form.

    Yea…I’ll do it.

    And, thank you so much!

    You’re welcome. :)

I don’t trust WordPress’s aesthetic judgment when it comes to selecting blogs for Freshly Pressed. It’s a way of promoting what the powers-that-be at Automattic believe ought to be promoted (anyone remember how the David Carradine hanging was tasteless exploited in this manner???). In more than 2 years of hosting my blogs at WP, my content has always been snubbed, and given the over-emphasis on textual blog entries, there is a definite bias against photo-blogs as far as randomly assigning “freshness” or “awesomeness.”

I imagine that creating selection criteria for over 25 million blogs in a multiplicity of niches would be a challenging task to undertake. However, I do not rely on WordPress.com to promote my posts. I know there is no such thing as “passive blog promotion” and I know that social networking greatly increases reach. I don’t remain behind the WordPress.com garden wall holding my breath and expecting a boost from having a post Freshly Pressed at all. I actively promote my own posts throughout the blogosphere and encourage others to do the same.
