freshy, and drop-down archives/categories

I know it might be theme-specific, but it would be great to have it fixed for freshy if that’s the case. See, it’s already May, and I’ve got April’s archives displayed on the drop-down. That’s great, but what I’d like is for the drop-down menus to work as advertised, i.e. this — http://wpcom.files.wordpress.com/2007/04/dropdown-cloud.jpg
It’s impossible to go to April’s archives on freshy since the default display’s stuck at April 2007, with no option to select it — unlike the picture which clearly shows a “Select Month” and “Select Category”, which enables those using the drop-down to select the first month or category on the list with ease.
I hope Support can shed some light on this matter, since it’s a real bother to not be able to have my visitors go through the previous month’s archives properly. Thanks.

Can’t have a May dropdown until you make a May post. The last post you have on your blog under your username there is April 30th. There’s nothing to point to. :)
Now, having said that, the calender used to be the same thing with it only showing the last month a post was made as a default but I notice that May os up there on that blog. When was that changed?

I always (for me ‘always’ is from Jan) remember it having the current day highlighted on the calendar in a different color than the days posts were made. It’s probably highlighting today’s date and therefore it shows up even though no posts made today. But I do know that not all themes act the same and highlight the current date in that widget and some themes a very very faint highlight…depends on the creator’s code if any on how they handle it.

I made a May post, and I can get to April’s now. Thing is, drmike, why can’t it be exactly like the picture I linked to? I think you overlooked that part of my query — I was wondering why it doesn’t have a “Select Month” instead of displaying the latest month, and if anything could be done about it? Is this a bug of some sort, or could someone on Support just rewrite the code so that “Select Month” and “Select Category” are available on the drop-downs for archives and categories on the theme?
This is due to how navigating the drop-down would be like — if I chose “April 2007” from the menu, I’d be transported to April’s archives. Yet if I wanted to see only May 2007’s archives exclusively, there would be a problem because “May 2007” is the default, and there’s no way for me to select it on the menu.

What is that picture from? What is it a picture of? ie What site?
You would have to ask staff directly via feedback about writing the code. Please note that I’m not a staff member and have no access anything that they do or plan.

There is no fix for it as of yet. I would send in a feedback asking staff for a fix for this. I have as well, but the more they get, the more they know it’s an issue with other bloggers. For now you can select April, for instance, and then select May. I know it’s a pain but it’s the only way for now if you want to keep using the drop down feature. Otherwise turn off the drop down feature until it gets fixed.

Well Saturnine your feedback was heard….I just noticed today that the ‘drop down’ feature now has defaults. The Archive one says “Select Month” and the Categories one says “Select Category”. It works perfectly now and I think you will be happy.
