    is it possible to know who is subscribing to your posts under the friend surfer, and vice versa, if that person can find out if i have subscribed to his posts?

    @Mark
    Given that
    (1) my friends are listed in my blogroll;
    (2) I have a record of the comments I make on their blogs through co-comment as well as through
    (3)”My Comments” on my dashboard; and
    (4) as I have also subscribed to my friends’ blog feeds I’m aware of all their new posts;
    thus, I wonder what useful purpose does the “Friend Surfer” serve? I just don’t get it. Could you explain this to me please?
    Most importantly how does one remove their Friends they have already added to the list? I do not want this list on my dashboard I created but I do not seem able to get rid of it. There is an “add” button for friends but no “delete” button. Please help.

    1 – not everyone is doing that.
    2 – some people don’t use co-comment
    3 – ?
    4 – some people do not use RSS.

    It’s two words in the blue bar – ignore it?

    Ha! ha! ha! you misunderstood me Mark. I didn’t mean I wanted to get rid of the Friend Surfer button itself. I just wanted to know how to delete an individual friend’s name from the Friend Surfer.
    I have discovered that clicking on the “x” beside the friend’s name can be used to delete the name.
    And I found out what else I needed to know. The friend surfer simply replaces the need for 4 functions that I listed above.

    in response to your comment on ww:

    in order to remove a blog from the friend surfer (e.g., if you have 1 public blog, and 1 semi-private blog that you do not want random users reading)

    1. go to that dashboard > options > privacy
       and make the blog private. (this is temporary).
    2. log out of wordpress.com
    3. sign up for wordpress.com using a different email address, and using a new username that is not the same as any of your blog names (so people don’t accidentally add you). Do not create a blog, just a username.
    4. after you finish responding to all the confirmation emails and whatnot, log out of wordpress.com
    5. log in as your original username (sunburntkamel, in my case), and go to your private blog’s dashboard > users.
    6. add your newly created user as an administrator
    7. log out, and log in as your new user
    8. go to dashboard > users.
    9. delete your original username from the blog.
    10. go to options > privacy, and make the blog public again.

    you may want to share the new username with your regular readers via private email. or just let them continue reading via RSS, or whathaveyou.

    I have just tried to add drmike, wank and sunburntkamel to my friend surfer without success. Would staff help me with this please?

    They just changed how the feature works:
    http://wordpress.com/blog/2006/11/21/the-friend-surfer-with-knobs-on

    subscribe to blog.wordpress.com

    (note: if you have a purchased domain name, you still need to use the wordpress.com blog name)

    @engtech
    Yup, thanks I just read it whew!

    the friend surfer only lists wordpress blogs? but when the feature was first added, it included one of the blogs in my blogroll, which is outside wordpress. When I’m trying to add another blogsite, I can’t as it only accepts blogs on wordpress.

    Any advice how i can add non-wordpress blogs?

  • Unknown's avatar

    You can’t. Friend surfer is strictly an in-house wordpress.com feature.
