friends can't sign up for blog

Three friends just wrote that they cannot sign up for the blog. Here is one of them:

I enjoyed the garlic piece but when I asked that I be put on your mailing list, I received a confirmation notice from your blog but it would not accept my confirmation, anyhow you may want to check this out for a possible glitch.

I have a tiny blog and just my students read it but I certainly would like to have everyone who wants to sign up be able to do so.

Hi there,
I went and took a look at your site, and I was able to sign up to Follow your blog without any issues. I’ve verified that your posts are showing up in my Reader too.
When your friends say that they’re not able to sign up for the blog, do you happen to know if they’re talking about following it, or have you invited them to be contributors in some other way? Could you give me some more details?

Thanks for getting back to me on this. Other than what I wrote, I have been told that they sign up and when the notice they have signed up comes to their email, they cannot confirm. Other than that, I don’t know. Some folks can. Most folks can’t. I have had this problem from the beginning. What I can’t figure out is how to contact wordpress about this.

If you don’t mind, could you please reach out to your friends who are unable to confirm the signup and see what errors they are getting when they attempt to? Any additional information such as what browser and version number and what operating system and version would also be incredibly useful.
Screenshots are also a huge help with understanding issues like this – can you please ask one or more of them to take a screenshot of the error and then upload it to your Media Library so I can better understand what’s going on? Please try to include the URL bar in the screenshot!
Once it’s uploaded, if you could respond here with a link to the screenshot, that would be great.
