From .com to .org.

Having failed at trying myself, and now having a WP ‘consultant’ fail at the transfer from .com to .org (self hosted), I am at a loss as to what to do.

My hosting partner(godaddy) has : changed my XML file transfer size limit, I migrated to Linux, I reinstalled DB…..&WP.

But the Transfer of my site from (forwarded) meshtime.com to http://www.bigboardgaming.com has failed.

After transferring 16 posts, an error message pops – No File found.
The WP consultant says its possibly a Media Library issue?

I have not paid the chap yet, but I want to pay someone to please help me get this site migrated, as I cannot post until this is sorted out.

This is a hobby site, so no drama, but it has been languishing for some time.

    what does one do?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG yet you can click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

    ok. I re posted question:
    “Hi there,
im moving my blog from the free service to here : bigboardgaming.com
with a WP consultants help. However he encounters an error 2 16 records transferred. The error message says file empty.
My current site is (email visible only to moderators and staff) it is forwarded to http://www.meshtime.com currently.
GODADDY is my hosting provider, I have had a fresh install of everything and moved off of MSFT server to Linux server.

I’m not confident my WP consultant can get this done, but the Transfer service is not available for me to buy.
    Any help is appreciated.”

I’m happy to pay a happiness engineer to do this migration. But I am in limbo now for nearly 2 weeks.

    Best
    K

  • Hi there – I’m not clear on what’s happening on your end. Have you exported your old blog’s XML file, imported it into the new site, and made sure to check the ‘download and import file attachments’ box on import? Did all of your content not come over?

If not, please try the import again. If this doesn’t answer your question, can you please provide a bit more detail about what isn’t migrating correctly when you import into the new site at GoDaddy?

well… I’ve gone thru file splitting, moving to Linux server and now since my ‘consultant’ can get the site to work on his server not mine (godaddy) I have changed hosting providers. The back up of the blog is being up loaded now, I’ll see what happens tomorrow.

I’m about to throw in the tell and just start fresh and leave the current blog where it is, and walk away from 3 years of posting.

    – To answer you specifcally: Yes I did an XML export. d.loaded all. The up load to the new site would only load 16 posts then time out.
This was according to support here due to xml file size.
The consultant somehow has ‘backedup’ the blog, and d.loaded all the media files and is going to restore to the new url, which I redirected after cancelling hosting with Go daddy.

  • Hi there – So, you’ve decided to host your site with a different host and haven’t yet imported onto that site? Let me know once you’ve done that, how it works. If the import file times out and support at your hosting provider says it’s because of their file size limit, please ask them to increase that limit so you can import your content.

If you do want to do a Guided Transfer, you’re welcome to do that, but you’ll need to move to one of our partner hosts: http://get.wp.com/hosting/ The Guided Transfer team is currently away, but you’ll be able to purchase a Guided Transfer again starting October 10th.
