From “free” to “pay for play…” blogging…

I know it’s probably in a faq, but I’ll be darned if I can find it.

My blog has gone from “a fear filled place to rant as my family heads down that road toward homelessness,” to what appears to be “a voice in the wilderness” for people trying to build affordable housing, out of alternative materials like shipping containers and salvaged metal buildings. So, although it’s a “niche” blog, I’m starting to get a following.

I’m at nearly 100,000 views, without doing anything “popular” at all, and I’d like to start monetizing it, and doing the “ad” thing. (I know that most of you get that many views in a week, or a month, but my blog is REALLY specific, and it doesn’t “draw” like the rest of your guys and gals…) To me, 100,000 views is a big deal.

I have companies and manufacturers who have offered me opportunities that would help my family, almost immediately.

So, that means a switch to the other side of WordPress, where “all men are only as good as their last post…” :)

Has anybody out there done this? Was it difficult transferring all your posts to the new blog side? Does the blog URL change? Aside from access to FTP and a few more blog themes, is there any real difference in the service? Will I still create posts thru the dashboard the same way?

Are all my questions making me sound like a pain in the butt? :)

Seriously, this could make a huge difference to my family, our safety and survival.

Please, tell me that you’ve done it. Tell me it was an easy and smooth transition. Tell me that you didn’t lose all your readers or your post material… Tell me that you didn’t have to become a programmer… Please…

    I’m skeered… :)

Many people have done this. It’s an easy and straightforward process. If you Google “going from wordpress.com to wordpress.org” or similar phrases you will be able to read how they did it.

    How to

The difference between .com and .org

Automatic redirect from .com to .org

Essentially, the dashboard is the same and the blogging experience stays the same. In fact, it just gets better.
