From GoDaddy Domain to WordPress??

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi All:
I was told to 1st signed up at GoDaddy to purchase my domain, and then use WordPress to build my webpage. Since, I just did it, and it is less than 60 days, it seems that I need to use Map Transfer – Correct.

Now that I have purchased my domain – it seems silly to have it transferred to WordPress. What would be the best action:
    1. Cancel my purchase at GoDaddy – and but the same domain at Workdpress
    2. Do a Map transfer to WordPress
    Thank you

    Hi there,

If you want to use your custom domain for your blog then you will need to purchase wordpress.com paid plan.

    1. Cancel my purchase at GoDaddy – and but the same domain at Workdpress

If you cancel, it will take a lot of time by GoDaddy to again release the domain under available domain pool.

    2. Do a Map transfer to WordPress

Transfer or mapping is the best option. I would suggest you transfer it after purchasing a wordpress.com paid plan, As your domain, as well as your host, will be under the same roof which wordpress.com. If you choose mapping option then again you need to update at DNS records at Godaddy which help you to point the domain name at wordpress.com

Read the below guide for domain transfer & mapping a domain

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
    Thanks!

  • Hi there,

You only need to map or transfer the domain to us if you want to use it with a site hosted on WordPress.com, and don’t own any WordPress.com sites – you only created this account five hours ago.

If instead you are planning to build your site using the open source WordPress software with GoDaddy, where it sounds like you may have already bought a hosting account, you don’t need to do or buy anything on WordPress.com – a self-hosted WordPress site is something completely different from WordPress.com.

If that’s the case, please contact GoDaddy support for help getting the WordPress software installed on their servers and connected to your domain.
