From wordpress.com to another host

  Dear Support team,
  I bought a domain voa wordpress.com but that is an error. I wanted to have a wordpress site but with a host where I can use ftp and install wordpress as a cms.

  Is it still possible? I would like to keep the name dommain I bought.

  Do I have to cancel everything and rebuy the name domain?

  Rather than canceling the domain (which can leave the domain unavailable for several months), the best solution moving forward would be the following:

  1. Setup your site on another hosting service

  2. Change the nameservers on the domain to point to that new host:

  Change a Domain’s Name Servers

  3. After 60 days past the registration date (you’re right on the cusp of that now since the domain was registered on 3/30/15), transfer the registration to your new host:

  Transfer a Domain to Another Registrar

  That way, you can continue using the domain the entire time rather than canceling. Would that work?

  Since you’re moving to a self-hosted site, I went ahead and refunded $73 ($99 – cost of domain) of your Premium bundle purchase. The bundle is not applicable for self-hosted sites. You can see that refund receipt here:

  Dear Team,

  I did everything like you told me to do.

  Yesterday, the web site was working properly on the new host, today, I’m back on the blog from wordpress.com

  In the dashboard, it looks like I still have the premium account at 99$ but before, I found the refund, now it is not here anymore.

  Is everything ok with my transfer?

  Are you still having this problem? I’m showing your domain geromegallo.com pointing to your self-hosted site, and that your domain was transferred to your new host successfully. I also see the login screen for your new site at geromegallo.com/wp-admin.

  No worries. Domains can be wonky right after you make changes like this one, but they almost always start behaving again in a day or so.
