Front end not updating

    Hi there,

I’m a bit of a rookie, and I’m sure this is a rookie question. But I’ve done some searching and can’t answers that make sense to my question.

I’m having problems updating the blog.

I’m hosting it myself, which I think is the cause of the issue. The url is elcamino.me. Apparently, the current theme is ‘Tonal’.

Elcaminodotme.wordpress.com is the WordPress domain, which I redirected to elcamino.me. The redirect seems to be working, but updating the blog doesn’t.

Shouldn’t elcamino.me update when I try to publish a new post or edit a post?

Also, the backend says I’ve not published any pages, which is definitely wrong as I’ve published an ‘About’ page.

Your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Michael,

I’m hosting it myself, which I think is the cause of the issue.

Your site is self-hosted site using the WordPress.org software, but this forum is for blogs hosted here on WordPress.com. The two versions are different and have separate forums. In the future, please post your questions at the WordPress.org forum: https://wordpress.org/support/

Elcaminodotme.wordpress.com is the WordPress domain, which I redirected to elcamino.me. The redirect seems to be working,

Yes, the redirect worked when I visited Elcaminodotme.wordpress.com.

Shouldn’t elcamino.me update when I try to publish a new post or edit a post?

Yes, it should. I see you have post called “Holding page” from June and also an About page.

    Hi again,

I’ve updated to Premium in the hope of sorting this (I’m off travelling soon, and hope to get my head around this before setting off).

I realise I made an error self hosting on wordpress.org. I’m not techie enough to deal with techie issues! But now that I’ve upgraded to Premium, does that not mean I’m eligible for support here?

Ideally, I’d like to host elcamino.me on WordPress.com, through the premium plan. Can I backtrack retrospectively to allow this?

The redirect from elcaminodotme.wordpress.com does work, and that’s great. My issue is that I can’t update elcamino.me. If I publish a page/post, when I ‘view site’ I’m met with a 404. Clearly it should update, but it doesn’t.

I’m sure it’s something very simple, but I’m stumped by this. As mentioned above, I did manage to publish an ‘About’ page a few months ago, and a post to explain the site would be updated in November. But since then, I’ve been unable to update anything.

    Thanks for your help :)

    Hello again Michael,
To use the hosting on WordPress.com, there are three things to do:

    1. Remove the site redirect from elcaminodotme.wordpress.com. Go to My Upgrades. Click the Settings button (cog icon) and then click Cancel. Follow the prompts. Here’s more info: https://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/#canceling-upgrades

    2. Change the name servers for elcamino.me (so it points to WordPress.com).

    3. Set up domain mapping for elcamino.me (so it will use content from elcaminodotme.wordpress.com).

For steps 2 & 3, refer to this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

If you would like assistance from a WordPress.com staff member, add “modlook” to the tags for this thread. Note that with a paid upgrade (ie. Premium plan) you also have the option of using the contacting support here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
