front page altering

    i would like the front page of the blog to be hilights of all the posts so far as opposed to a rolling doc. so someone can click on a day and view the full post rather than scrolling through entire running doc of blogs. i am a bit of an amateur as i also can’t appear to change the graphic picture on the front page either. please can someone help?
