front page changed unexpectedly
-
Hello
I noticed today that my front page only shows the last 7 articles. I have it set to display 50 articles; it may seem a bit much but for each of them only a few lines are shown, that’s how I write them, so it works fine. I checked the setting in the Reading section and it’s OK, still 50 posts.
I searched a bit around and found that you made a related feature addition called infinite scroll, it looks like it might have something to do with it.
If possible, I’d like to have my old layout back, I’m perfectly happy with it.Regards

OK, I think I know what’s the problem. It’s indeed related to the infinite scroll, or so it seems. I’ve enabled JavaScript and it works as it should, it has 7 posts initially but when I get to the end of the page other posts are added to the end. I usually don’t enable JavaScript for security reasons.
If you ask me, you have 2 issues here: first, when JavaScript is disabled you should revert to the old way of displaying the page. Second, I personally don’t like this idea with the infinite scroll. It’s counter-intuitive and confusing. You go to the end and suddenly the end isn’t the end any more, you don’t know what you have on the page and how big it actually is. Sorry to say but for me it’s not that great an idea. -

Thanks for answering.
I think I saw somewhere that it’s theme-related ? If so, could you please create a theme that’s my current one but without infinite scroll ?

No, that cannot be done at this time. Both Twenty Ten and Twenty Eleven now feature infinite scroll. We may provide an option to disable it, but that has not been decided yet.

OK, I found it in the other talk. A little bit complicated for my taste but seems to be working. Thanks.
(I have to wonder though, why would you give this option only to those with footer widgets ? If you give it anyway, why not just give it to everybody ?)And, IMO you still should fix the disable JavaScript issue for those who choose to have infinite scroll. But it’s not my problem any more.
