Front Page does not appear

  • Unknown's avatar

I created a front page with headline, image and longish text. I have never seen this page appear. When I do see the headline and click on it, all I get is the same headline (smaller) with a search bar. I would like this front page to be my static page that greets the viewers when they go to my blog.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello there, David,

It appears as if all the items you placed on your Front Page are indeed appearing as saved. Could you please confirm you followed the setup instructions here:

    https://wordpress.com/themes/zuki/support/

Also, please do make sure you click save to make that page go live.

If you’ve done this already, and are still having trouble, could you explain to me exactly what is missing, and where you added/save it, and I can troubleshoot further for you?

Thanks so much! All the best.

I tried to follow the instructions at the link you provided, but the step for selecting posts did not give me the choice indicated: there were only two choices, 1) the headline for the page I had just constructed (again), and 2) “About”. I don’t know if this is what’s hanging things up, but when I clicked the Preview button, nothing happened. I still need your help.

    Hi there,

No problem! I can help. My assumption is that you want your front page to appear like Zuki’s demo, as seen here:

    https://zukidemo.wordpress.com

If this is the case, the first thing to do is create a new page called Front. You can change the name if you’d like, but for now, simply create the page here:

    https://authordavidwolf.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php?post_type=page

Give it the Title, “Front.” Where you see Template, choose “Front Page.” Then, click Publish.

Now, add one more brand new page. You will call this one Blog. Again, this an be changed, but for now it’ll work. This page can have the default template. Click Publish.

Now, go to your Customizer. You can click here to go straight to that page:
    https://authordavidwolf.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php?return=%2Fwp-admin%2Fpost-new.php%3Fpost_type%3Dpage

Click “Front” in the right-hand menu. Where you see Front Page, choose the new page you just saved called Front. Where you see Posts Page, you will choose the new page you just created called Blog.

So, now you’re on your way…two major steps done. Once you’re done with those, we can continue.

In the meantime, if you haven’t already, please watch the Front Page Configuration How-To Video:
    http://vimeo.com/109515791

Also, if you’re ready to keep building, you can create the front page slider (just like you see in the Demo). To show the Featured Post slider at the top of your front page, create a specific tag (like “featured”) and assign it to up to 10 posts that you want to display in your slider. Add the tag you selected under Appearance → Customize → Featured Content.

The Featured Images for posts in the slider must to be 1200px wide by 800 px high.

Thanks, David. Drop me a line once all this is done, and we can keep working!

You’ve chosen a theme that does take a bit of setup, but once you’re done, I think you’ll be very pleased.

    Hi David!

A qualified success. I followed your instructions, and completed the first two major steps.

    Congrats! Nicely done :)

But before I try to add slides, how do I customize these two new pages

Most of the customization will take place automatically. For instance, you blog post page should now contain all your posts. Let me know what changes you wanted.

You front page will be customized as you start adding more content (such as posts with featured images).

You can also start adding the widgets you want.

    Return to Zuki’s support page:
    https://wordpress.com/themes/zuki/support/

Scroll down to the header: Zuki’s Front Page Widget Areas and Widgets.

It will show you how to add your widgets to your Front Page.

Give it a try and let me know how it works! If you get stuck on any specific widgets, let me know what you’re working on, and what you’re trying to accomplish.

Nice work…your site is coming together! Take care!

Hi TR, I got to the Customizer, but I still can’t get my Front Page to appear. I click the link with the desired headline, Writing about Artificial Intelligence, but nothing happens. I tried shift-click. I tried ctrl-click. I tried shift-ctrl-click. Nothing. I opened the Widgets column, clicked

    Hi there!

I have a suggestion for you, given that you are online while our live chat operators are available…

I think having someone walk you through the process (rather than email back and forth with me) would help immensely. I want to save you time and energy!

    Try this:

    1. Sign into WordPress.com.
    2. You MAY see a How May I Help You? box at the bottom of your Dashboard. If you do, click it!
    3. If you don’t see that box, while you are still logged into WordPress.com, go to this link:
      en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
    4. Type a question into the “Ask a Question…” support box.
    5. It will give you a list of results, but I want you to scroll to the bottom of the page until you see an orange button that’s labeled. “Get in Touch with Support.” Click that button!
    6. After you click it, if there is an operator available, he/she can assist. If nobody is available, click the link that allows you to send a request for a live chat.
    7. I would LOVE to help further, but I just know this would be more expedient for you.

Please let me know how it goes. Thank you!
