front page header
-
Hi,
For my website I am creating a static front page called “Home”, and the posts page is called “News” with The Morning After template. This template has a header and a header image. However I can’t customize the header for Home and News. When I tried to change the header for the “News” Page as “news” at Appearance >> Theme Options >> Template headings, then the “Home” page header also changes to “news” so that the header of both “News” and “Home” pages are “news”. When I change the it back to “home” then header of both “Home” and “News” also change to “home”. What can I do to make the header of “Home” page as “home” and the header of “News” page as “news”?
Thank you in advance.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There’s an excellent guide to the complex features this theme has here > Guide to The Morning After > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/06/02/the-morning-after/

Also this is the result of clicking your username:
marbeledbrownies.wordpress.com is no longer available.
The authors have deleted this blog.I suggest you link your username to your active blog s at the very least we can lay eyes on it when we attempt to help you. Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings -> then scroll down to Account Details. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Website‘ select the URL for your primary wordpress.com blog and then save changes.
Now every time you sign into the forum we can all click on your username and your blog will be linked to it. And every time you leave a comment on a blog your username can be likewise clicked and your blog can be instantly located.

As you’ve found out, you can’t do what you’d like to do, for two reasons: a) when you set a static page as your blog front, you no longer get to see that page (hence, neither its template heading) – you’re just borrowing it’s title, so to speak, to create the relevant tab in the top nav menu; b) the posts page in this theme is designed to be the blog front, so in essence at the moment you’re simply misusing the theme.
What I would (strongly) suggest is that you revert to the way the theme is meant to be used: set your front to display your latest posts, and give your intro a different title (About, Welcome, or whatever). It’s a lot better for returning visitors to see what’s new on your blog front rather than see the same intro all the time and have to click to see if there are fresh news.
If you don’t want to do that, the only thing you can do is delete the template headings: they’re not of much use anyway.

thanks for the info…
i just wish there is a way to do that…there is a reason why i put home as my first page anyway…i am not misusing the theme…

i tried to delete the template headings…but for other pages (other than front page and post page) the template headings still appear automatically. i still wish the template heading for front page and post page can be customized.
is there nothing you can do about this?

We are aware of the many reasons people have for setting static front pages. We are likewise aware of the impact that has on returning visitors who most certainly are coming to read fresh content. Static front pages are traffic killers. There’s no doubt about that. We are aware of the studies that demonstrate visitors will wait only 3 – 4 seconds to locate fresh content, and then click out if they don’t locate it. Nothing is more annoying to retuning readers than so have to click through a page with the same blog, blah, blah on it every time they visit a blog. That being said if you wish to set a static front page you can simply choose another theme. There are 130 of them you can choose from. http://theme.wordpress.com/

We cannot edit templates or themes. Please take note of this section in the support documentation > http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/editing-themes/

hmm i’ve tried other themes, but i kept coming back to this theme. i like this theme except for this one problem. and may be some people keep a static front page to prevent too much traffic.

and returning visitors must have figured out already, where to read the fresh contents. well, thanks anyways.

oh and one more thing…i opened an account in wordpress after a presentation in a symposium. the speaker said, the reason she chose to present about wordpress rather than blogger is because with wordpress you can make a website while with blogger you can only make a blog. she said, with wordpress you can create a website without having to struggle with html codes etc. that is why i came here, to try out the website option. i want an introductory page as my front page rather then fresh contents. anyways, just sharing.

Yes, but you chose a very unusual theme that doesn’t lend itself to what you’re looking for.
