Front page ideas

  Hello all! I am new to word press and was looking for some advice for my blog, specifically I am curious as to what I should for my front page.

  Right now it is just my recent posts, but do people find it better to have a static, consistent page?

  What do you think is more appealing? A static page, that perhaps details what your blog is about, or a page that constantly changes, updating on recent posts?

  I have only had my blog for about a week, so I don’t have an audience large enough to poll, so that’s why I came to the forums!

  Any advice would be appreciated! Even advice unrelated to this post.

  People do not find it “better” to have a static front page, but many think so. Depends upon your site and the needs of your audience. For instance, if you have a portfolio site with little or not updated blog posts, then having a static front page and using all Pages with no posts is an option. If you wish to have news and the latest articles visible to the visitor upon arrival on the front of the site, then having your posts on the front page of the site is best.

  There are also WordPress Themes that offer customizable front pages that include static or featured content alone with your most recent posts (using the Showcase Page Template with a static front page setting and separate blog).

  If there is information you need to have visible on the front page of the site that requires more space than the Text Widget provides in the sidebar, then you can create a sticky post and the information will stay “fixed” at the top of the post queue.

  Seriously, until you have more experience with this, I’d choose a fun Theme and just leave the posts on the front page of the site so the latest information is easily found.
