Front page layout has changed (for the worse)
-
Can someone have a look at my blog page (http://jmtn.wordpress.com) please ? The ‘front’ page has changed layout, and is now too wide to display the 2 columns, which are now in tiny rows underneath. Stange thing is, when you open a post, the layout is correct!!!
My template is “Andreas04”.
thanks

I’m not 100% sure, but I think the problem is that you’ve got half of a hyperlink before the MORE tag and half after in this post:
http://jmtn.wordpress.com/2008/01/26/tomytec-previews-releases-for-1st-12-2008/#more-342So you definitely want to go to the end of the “…” and edit that link so that it’s wholly on the FAR side of the more tag. Does that make sense?
-
No, not sure what you mean. I have only one ‘more’ tag, and it is in the code as follows (the way all the other post are as well) …
At a recent sales meeting, Tomytec showed samples of forthcoming releases, as well as future planned ones ….
<!–more–>

Supposedly due late January, but not spotted yet is ‘Car Collection’ #5 – small commercial vehicles …

FOUND IT !!! The post “30,000 page views” looked wider than all the others, and when I looke at the codes, sopmehow it had
<div class=”snap_preview”>
in the text. I took it out, and now it looks OK.
thanks for the tips anyway Raincoaster

So how about in general? I am having the same problem. Should I look at the codes for all of my posts and take out <div class=”snap_preview”> if it appears?
-
Yes, that is something that should not be directly in your posts, and I have no idea what is causing it. Each div will have two tags, a beginning and an ending so make sure and take out both. The <div class=”snap_preview”> is the beginning, and the ending will look like this
</div> -
I don’t see <div class=”snap_preview”> or </div> anywhere. Am I not looking in the correct place. My posts are minimal right now since this is a new blog:

It may not be there in yours. It’s been showing up randomly for some and as I said, it should not be in a post. It’s some mutant thing.
-
But why would my front page be too wide to display the 2 columns, which are also in tiny rows underneath, when you open a post, the layout is correct?
-
The sidebar has gone to the bottom of the page because something in a post is causing it.
Look at this page: http://bluebirdgrainfarms.wordpress.com/category/farming-life/
That page is OK, the sidebar is where it should be.
-
yes the side bar is okay in all the posts, but not the static front page. It must be something about the front page.
-
It is. If you go here you will see that you have some open tags, and one of the errors reported would seem to indicate tables are not an allowed element in pages on wordpress.
-
Thanks. I will take out the table. Aren’t tables allowed somewhere in wordpress. I am not talking about the wordpress.com. Can’t one customize wordpress via plugins and themes? And isn’t there more flexibility with VIP wordpress.com?
-
Because wordpress.com is a free-hosted service, and because we all share the same multi-user software, there are many more restrictions on .com. If you get a webhost and a domain name, and download and install the single-user version of the software from http://wordpress.org/ you are pretty much open to do whatever you want.
I don’t know for a fact that tables are not allowed, I’m just going by the fact that W3C’s validator says the table element was not allowed. It may be because of the coding, or something else, but that is what was reported. I know some have used tables in the widgets if I remember right.

For what it’s worth, “table” is in the list of allowed HTML here but I don’t know if it is allowed on all themes: http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/06/08/allowed-html-tags/

@bluebirdfarms
Go to my test blog. I’ve loaded your theme and put in a 2×2 table on a page, so it is possible.
