  Hi there,

  It is not possible to add a front page meta description to the homepage template directly but is an option with the advanced SEO tools included in the WordPress.com Business and Commerce plans: https://wordpress.com/support/seo-tools/#front-page-meta-description

  The Business and Commerce plans will also allow you to also consider adding any plugin or theme “designed for WordPress” which would also include a broad range of SEO plugins to choose from:

  It’s also worth noting that the homepage meta description does not have specific SEO value, but if you add a description to each of your blog posts using the Excerpt setting, it will function as a workaround and allow you to add meta descriptions to any page or blog post on your site.
