Front page MistyLook theme
-
I am trying to add a static front page to my blog, but I can’t figure out what went wrong. The “Home” page sends and error message. The “Blog” page that I created is fine. I am having trouble with this template. How can I know which templates allow the Home page to be edited?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You cannot select a static page for your front page until you have created it. Have you created it? If so, what is the URL?

Thanks. I’ve tried this several times and the template (default) home page is not listed in the pages editor. I still have two home pages.
I tried using the default home page and added a post to be featured (sticky) on that page. That was not working and the posts were still showing up on the default home page.

The Misty Look theme has a “Home” page Tab that’s only a Tab and not an actual Page. This is coded into the template and it cannot be edited of eliminated.
Many themes are hard coded to display a “Home” link even when no other pages exist. So if you had created a page titled “Home,” you would now have two links to “Home” appearing in the navigation menu. Both links would also be going to the same location. Obviously you don’t want this.
If the theme you’re using doesn’t display child pages in the pages menu, you can hide the second link by editing the page and setting another page as the Parent in the Attributes module. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/hide-pages/

Thanks a lot. I am a little confused about which page to make the parent page. The default can’t be touched, so which page am I doing this with?

I tried what you suggested and it works. I have two questions about this theme. Now that my menu is in tact, what happens if I delete the “Blog” page? Will my posts be lost if I do that?
My second question is regarding the comments off label on the pages. Aren’t pages supposed to be free of anything extra? Can I remove the comments off label without completely removing all tags and categories?
Thanks for helping me out.

a) No, a post is lost if you trash the post itself. If you delete the Blog page, you just lose the link to your main posts page.
b) I’m only seeing “Comments Off” on your welcome post, not on any of your pages. Anyway, you can’t remove that without the paid CSS upgrade. If it’s important to you, you can switch to a theme that displays no such tab on static pages (or posts?) – see here:

I was using different browsers to check the blog updates and I see the comments off labels on all of my pages. I also have the CSS upgrade.
I’m going to try other themes. This theme is really giving me a hard time. Thanks for your help.
