Front page personalisation

  Hi again Siobhan! :)

  Thanks for helping with the other topic, now all blog posts are shown properly :)

  As you can see now, my front page has only one photo, as a “featured image”. I would like to have it “full page” with the possibility to make the title as a hyperlink to the “blog” page.

  I also guess that these options for customisation are applicable to the “self hosted” website, rather than to the standard free WordPress site.

  I hope it makes some sense…

  Here’s a workaround you could try:

  Remove the site title from that page, and instead add an h1 tag with the word “Welcome” in the post itself. Select your word and then hoose Heading 1 from the second row of toolbar buttons, or switch to the HTML editor and add this:

  <h1><a href="https://umbertococca.wordpress.com/blog/">Welcome</a></h1>

  It won’t loook exactly the same as it does now, it’s the simplest workaround I can think of, since it’s not possible to put a link on the automatically generated page titles.

  It’s also not possible to modify the size of the featured image (i.e. to make it “full page”), as the size is set in the theme. If you had custom CSS (which comes with the Premium or Business plan) you’d be able to make some customizations, but actually resizing the featured image in the way I think you mean would require customizations beyond just CSS, as you suspect. :)

  Thanks for your reply!
  I tried the suggestion for the “Welcome” text, and it is already an improvement to the page, thank you so mach for this tip!

  I am using this free site to make up my mind on the look and feel of a potential page, and I think that the best would be as you suggest, to get a business/premium plan.
