Front Page showing full post instead of summary

front page not showing summaries so the full posts are going way down the front page and folks cant find recent posts

Do you mean that you have the “For each article in a feed, show: Full text – Summary” set to “summary”? That setting is for your RSS feeds and doesn’t affect the post display on your site.
The “more” tag is what you are probably looking for

Hi there, no I am talking about in READING settings
Front page displays tick your latest posts, blog pages to show at most.So if you see on my home page each Post I make is going down the page but some are obviously much longer than others, which means a lot of scrolling. Im sure it used to be a summary before. Just after I posted this question I did go to the most recent few posts and use the read more option in editor to break it up.But I have hundreds if not thousands of posts,I cant go back and do that.
Basically I want a summary of my posts on front page so readers can scan what has been happening like it was before. Thanks

The twentyeleven theme does not show post summaries. It shows the full post unless the <more> tag is used. Could you have been using a different theme previously?

The “more” tag or switching to a theme that uses post summaries rather than full posts are the two options available on WordPress.com to achieve this.

Yeah I was using twentyfourteen, I tried going back to one I used a few years back to see if it made a difference rootjosh.
How can I find themes that do? Thanks

Sadly, there is not a way to search for that particular feature. That having been said, it would be useful to have and I will bring it up with the theme team.
One thing you could try would be to post in the WordPress.com forums to see if any other users can think of themes off that top of their heads that have the post summery style.

Posting in “themes” might be the most logical. But the general “support” forum can see more traffic. Either would work.
