Front Page Template for Sela, not working

  • Unknown's avatar

    I’ve been using the Sela theme template for my blog. I don’t like the look of a post as the “home page”, so I wanted to copy the look that is displayed when you look up the Sela theme, listed as the “Front Page Template” but I can’t. Step 2 asks me to edit the Home page (which is automatically a post), and use the Page Options panel… This panel does not exist when I’m try to edit anything on my blog.
    What am I missing? Is the Front Page Template something I have to download?
    Help!

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

    Step 2 asks me to edit the Home page (which is automatically a post)

    Step 1, in the Sela theme guide “Set up a static front page with the Front Page Template” instructions says

    Publish two pages and give them titles that are easy to remember, like Home and Blog. To publish a page, navigate to My Site → Pages → Add Page.

    So the “Home” page should be a static page. See if that produces the expected results.

    This panel does not exist when I’m try to edit anything on my blog.

    It will if you’re in a page editor.

    Well it seems it’s not.
    At least in my case.
    I can not do anything with front page or any pages separately. If I am trying to remove sidebar on front page, it will be removed on all pages etc etc.
    Can you provide screenshot of it?

    @bubunya,

    Hi,

    ….

    The panel referred to in the original post here is the Page Options panel. There is a screenshot of it under item #2 in the Setting up your front page section of the Sela theme guide.

    If I am trying to remove sidebar on front page, it will be removed on all pages etc etc.

    How would you go about removing a sidebar from a page? It might be possible with CSS customization.

    @bubunya,

    Btw, are you referring to a WordPress.com site? It’s often helpful if you provide the address of the site you’re referring to.

    Thanks for all the interest and suggestions, I was able to figure it out. Th tabs/ buttons I had to press to make it work had slightly different name, which threw me off. Thanks though!

    Thanks, musicdoc1!
    It seems problem was in installed theme itself.
    Did reinstall it and everything works without any problems.
    Now trying to kill it with child…

    @ bubunya,

    You’re welcome! But please, do spare the children.

    Can I bother you with all that newbies?

    Sure. But it might be better to start another thread or three, here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1. I’m off to a birthday party soon. Might not get back here till tomorrow. Buenos noches!

    That’s why I asked you before if you were referring to a WordPress.com site, because this forum is solely for issues regarding WordPress.com accounts and websites.

    WordPress.com and WordPress.org are different versions of WordPress, with different support forums. See the WordPress.com and WordPress.org support page.

    If the site you are seeking support for is a self-hosted WordPress.org site, then please resubmit your request to the WordPress.org support forums. If you haven’t already done so, you may register here: https://wordpress.org/support/register.php, to use the WordPress.org support forums.
