Front page widget area

  • Unknown's avatar

I accedently deleted my front page and then I made a new one, and I can’t get widgets on it, which makes it a boring front page. It says,

“Your theme has 3 other widget areas, but this particular page doesn’t display them.

You can navigate to other pages on your site while using the Customizer to view and edit the widgets displayed on those pages.”

How do I add a page that display these widget areas?

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

You’ll need to assign the Front Page template to your home page in order to enable widgets on it.

To do that, first navigate to the editor for your front page here:

    https://wordpress.com/page/mathildeexchangeyearblog.wordpress.com/390

Choose Page Settings to the upper right, then select the Page Attributes tab from the right sidebar. You’ll find the Template dropdown menu here, where you can choose from a dropdown menu to assign the Front Page template to your home page.

Let me know if that’s clear or if you have any further questions.

    Hello @mathildeexchangeyearblog,

I’m currently using my employers computer so I can’t create a local copy of your site. However, I will try my best to help you with your issue.

I recommend going to your sites customizer tab. From, there you will be presented with a list of options for your front page. Experiment with that and see if it solves your issue.

I would also read up on our widgets article as there can be a setting you may have to tweak.

Let us know if this helps!

    Best,
    Bill

@billh93: No worries at all! It happens. :)

Have you thought about setting up a test site here at WordPress.com? It’s not usually necessary to create a local copy of a site when helping on these forums as all the themes can be activated directly from the WordPress.com repository.

    Hey @siobhyb,

I do have a test site here on WordPress.com but it always slips my mind as I’m used to testing on my mac using localhost haha. My employers pc software is also not good so I’m limited with testing until I get home but I always try!

Thanks for the suggestion! I will give the test site a try and see how it goes.

    Best,
    Bill
