Fruit shake theme-no longer see images on homepage to swipe on iPad

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I’m hoping someone can help me with this issue. I’ve been using the fruit shake theme for years and I have the mobile options mobile theme set to “yes” in Appearance. A few years ago I was delightfully pleased by how this displayed on an iPad with images pulled from the posts to the homepage of my blog that could be “swiped” through. Then, suddenly this mobile theme was no longer displaying. I haven’t changed this setting so I’m guessing it must be either a change in how this theme displays on mobile devices or something had changed with a version change or something? It was gorgeous.

I would like to know how to get that back or if I need to change to another theme to get it back or if it’s gone forever.

    Thanks for your help,
    Tani

Here’s the link for the iOs forum for the WordPress app so you can post there and make our WordPress developers aware of your iPad issue. http://ios.forums.wordpress.org/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting

If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.org, click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to to those forums.

  • Hi Tani, I’ll take a look at this – you don’t need to post in the iOS forum, as the mobile theme isn’t related to the app.

  • Looks like your mobile theme is still enabled under Appearance > Mobile.

Just to clarify, the mobile theme is not applied to tablets like iPads. It uses device detection (rather than responding to the screen size) and does not get activated on the iPad. This isn’t a recent change and has been like this for many years.

I visited your site on my iPad and clicked on the first image in your image gallery in the Oregon Zoo Zoolights post, below this paragraph:

It was quite festive with groups of friends and family exploring the patterns together. Kids were snuggled cozily into wagons and strollers and all were bundled up to fully enjoy the experience.

The first image opened in a carousel on a black background, as expected. I was also able to move through from one image to the next, by clicking on the forward/back arrows to the left and right of each photo.

If you could explain step-by-step what you’re doing that is not giving you the results you expect on the iPad, that would be very helpful. Thanks!

Thanks for your thoughts. It’s not actually an issue with iOs or my iPad, but rather the mobile theme seems to be functioning differently than it once had.

    Thanks,

Thanks so much for your thoughts. It’s hard to explain as there once was functionality on my iPad that there is no longer for the very same blog with the very same settings. It’s not at the level of the blog posts, but rather if I can explain it as best as possible, this is the change:

I once used to be on my iPad viewing my site outside of my admin settings just as any other viewer might on their iPad. What I received the second I clicked on the blog regardless of the most current post (e.g. the Zoo) was a “homepage”/”splash page” that was completely images that were pulled 1 image from each of my posts on my entire site. It was gorgeous and fun to be enticed to look at the posts by seeing a homepage of images from the posts.

Then, one day upon viewing my site this initial swipable “homepage”/”splash page” was gone. I had not changed any admin settings and so I was disappointed. I suppose that it could have coincided with an iOs change, however, I wasn’t aware of any change at that time so I assumed that something had changed with the Fruit shake theme to have caused it as all variables that I was aware of (my admin settings and iOs) hadn’t changed leaving the possibility of the theme.

Does that make sense? I’ve searched to try to figure out who is in charge of this theme to see if I could find out anything more about it as I’d like to have some similar functionality again and it’ll be quite a research project to find another theme that might function similarly or a widget that I’m not aware of.

    Thanks for your thoughts…

  • Hi Tani, I spoke with our developer who made the last changes to Fruit Shake, and she does not see any theme updates that would have affected the theme’s display on an iPad in the way you describe.

What I received the second I clicked on the blog regardless of the most current post (e.g. the Zoo) was a “homepage”/”splash page” that was completely images that were pulled 1 image from each of my posts on my entire site.

We aren’t quite sure where you were seeing this type of display. :-) Perhaps you were viewing the site in the WordPress.com Reader, either while logged in at https://wordpress.com in a browser, or using the mobile WordPress app. The way sites are displayed in the Reader does change and evolve over time, and is the same no matter what theme a site is using. If you think this may have been where you were viewing your site, you are definitely welcome to start a new forum thread so another Happiness Engineer can take a look. If you add the tag modlook in the tags area, a staff member will see it.

Thanks for these continued thoughts. It wasn’t the reader because I haven’t ever used it. I did check it out today to be sure that’s not a possibility. Shoot, this will stay an unsolved mystery…
