Frustrated over theme change
-
I recently changed the template of my blog realliveangels.wordpress.com to a more magazine style look. The documentary has now launched, and I want people to keep up with the stories. Unfortunately, I had no idea (nowhere did it indicate this clearly) that the style I chose was “flush left”. My only fix appears to be the $39 upgrade (annually) to center the CSS. I don’t have the funds today as I am a non-profit and just graduated grad school. Is there any way to center this – or to KNOW that a change in template will be centered (I prefer something that covers the whole screen!) before I activate it?
Thanks.Brent Weber

Hi there!
I’m sorry you’re frustrated with the theme change. It looks like realliveangels.wordpress.com is using the Twenty Fourteen theme. Here’s some information about that theme:
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/twentyfourteen/
I’m not sure what you mean by the site is “flush left”. Can you give me more specifics on what exactly you want your site to look like? Is it the post content that you’re worried about? Or do you not like the placement of the sidebar? There is a full width template that you can use on your Pages to expand the content area.
Let me know what you’d like to see and I’m sure we can figure it out!

Thank you for your kind response. I am likely not using the proper terminology to describe what I see as an issue. The “content area” of the entire site does not center in this theme; thus the extra space in a wide screen ( almost every screen used today) is all at the right. I was able to ” test” out changing it in the customize theme dialogues, but there is no option in the theme to center it. It flatly looks like crap with all that space.
Thanks off your reply. -
Okay! I understand what you mean now! All of our themes will have some white space because this makes your site much more readable. However, we do have some themes that take up more space horizontally than Twenty Eleven does.
Let me know if I can help further!

Thanks Shawna. If I may attach two examples. The one, Scorecard Scribblings, has the content area “centered”. The space is the same on either side. The other is the new version of my site – which I hate to have to change AGAIN – which only has the space on the right. There is the ability to change the code, I guess, to center this if I pay the annual fee. Not trying to be cheap, but if I could just do this myself…
Thanks for working with me. Otherwise, could you recommend a clean magazine theme you like that would be appropriate for my documentary (which is about special needs people so it needs to be accessible by non-movie types).brent

Oops, I guess I cant attach photos. So… scorecardscribblings.com versus realliveangelsmovie.com .
Thanks!

Here’s a link to all of our “magazine” themes:
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/subjects/magazine/Maybe one of those will work better for you.
If you want to change the layout of an existing theme, however, you will need to modify the CSS, and that will require the Custom Design upgrade at $30/year.
