Frustrated setting up Rowling theme site
-
I’m just starting out with WordPress.
These are issues I’m stuck on:* The Contact Form has my information pre-filled in even though it does not show on the Edit screen.
* Pages (Home, About, Contact, Blog, etc.) are not included in banner below site title; only Blog and Contact are featured above
*Do I need to make blog posts to make it look like the live demo (where there are rectangles)?
*My home page does not have the bar on the right including search option & categories
Thanks,
ScottThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Scott,
* The Contact Form has my information pre-filled in even though it does not show on the Edit screen.
Anyone logged into WordPress.com will see the contact form pre-filled with their own information. We pre-fill that information to make the process of filling in the form a little quicker and convenient for people.
No one else will see your information in the form and it will be empty if someone views it while logged out of WordPress.com.
* Pages (Home, About, Contact, Blog, etc.) are not included in banner below site title; only Blog and Contact are featured above
As you’ve set up a custom menu, you’ll need to manually add new pages to it.
To do that, navigate to the Menus panel of the WordPress.com Customizer and select the menu you wish to add to. From there, click the “Add Items” button to add pages to your menu. You’ll also find an option to ” Automatically add new top-level pages to this menu” so that newly published pages are automatically added in the future.
*Do I need to make blog posts to make it look like the live demo (where there are rectangles)?
That’s right, the demo site’s home page is made up of blog posts. As you publish more posts your “posts page” (which is currently set to “Blog”) will start to resemble the demo site’s home page.
*My home page does not have the bar on the right including search option & categories
The demo site features widgets in the right sidebar. A widget is just a fancy name we give to special pieces of content that you can add to your site’s sidebar. :)
To add a widget: Navigate to the Widgets panel of the WordPress.com Customizer and then select Sidebar. Click on the “Add a Widget” button to browse through a list of widgets that are available to you. The demo uses the Search Widget, the Categories Widget, the Archives Widget, and the Contact Info Widget.
Hope that helps you out! Please don’t hesitate to let me know if extra questions come up too. :)

Thank you Siobhyb! Okay, I fixed that stuff. Now I am having trouble with the home page.
I want to move the images and text to the left so that all 3 images are on top of the text, and the text is not as many lines.
When I’m on the “Edit Page” part, it’s not as far left as I want, but otherwise it’s fine. It looks different when published – the dog got moved down a line and the text got bigger. -
Hi Scott,
Could you try setting left alignment on your left-most image in order to get everything to line up? You can do that by navigating to your editor, clicking on the image, and then select the left alignment tool from the resulting toolbar. That tool is highlighted in the following documentation:
The Base Font of your site has been set to Large via the Fonts panel in the WordPress.com Customizer, which is why the text on that page is appearing at a relatively large size. You can set the size back to Normal, if you’d prefer.
Hope that’s helpful!

Okay, the font issue is fixed, and now all 3 images are on one line BUT they are still not aligned left even though I did align left the first image. If it’s aligned left, shouldn’t it line up to the word “HOME”?
Also once I have blogs will they just be listed under this set of images and text? I didn’t want all the headings and intro image and text to take up so much space, if it can be helped.
Thanks again for your assistance, it’s getting better but I’m still frustrated!

Rowling displays content slightly to the right of the page/post title as part of its design. You can see that on the theme’s demo site, also:
https://rowlingdemo.wordpress.com/a-parent-page/
Overriding that design choice would require custom CSS, which is an option with the WordPress.com Premium or Business plans.
Also once I have blogs will they just be listed under this set of images and text? I didn’t want all the headings and intro image and text to take up so much space, if it can be helped.
Your posts will be published to your separate “posts page” here:
https://licenseplateschool.wordpress.com/blog/
If you’d like your posts to appear on your home page, then you’ll need to set your front page to display your latest posts via the Static Front Page panel of the WordPress.com Customizer.
If you go with that approach then you introductory text would not appear at the top of your home page. An alternative option could be to include that text in a Text widget for your sidebar.
