Frustration with Responsive Theme

    I’ve asked about this before, but I was simply told “the theme is fully responsive, there shouldn’t be a problem”. But there is; when my website is on a small screen, my menu backgrounds disappear and you can’t read menu items.

    So to remedy this, I finally fussed with the coding and forced background colors on the hand-held navigation menu.

    I also commented that I couldn’t test my website’s mobile version readily since I didn’t have a phone. I was told “All you have to do is resize your browser”. So I did.

    And between the two I got my site darn near perfect to what I wanted on the computer.

    Then I tested it on a phone. No menu background, and a messed up menu that jumbles across the screen. Completely different than the PC browser shrunk to its smallest size.

    I’m at my wit’s end. I hate this responsive nonsense. What options do I have?!

    What I want is to get RID of it. I’ve tried deleting all the responsive coding, restructuring the page contents and widget locations, and altering the viewport metatag in my header file, but no amount of altering or deleting the viewport metatag seems to influence the mobile view of my website. It would otherwise work fine, except that it loads pages on a phone zoomed-in (even if viewport dictates to zoom out) and will not let you zoom out or scroll the page around to view content. You can zoom in further to the present content, but not out.

    Nearly all of this looks fabulous on a tiny browser window, but terrible on a phone.
