FSE Site Export – Customized Templates

    When creating a full export on an FSE website, are customized templates exported/saved?

    I tried to export a single template, but received an error message. (temp screenshot)

    Hi Jennifer,

    At the moment, if you do a full export, that will export your template customizations as well. But they will only be imported if you do your import on a site using the same theme.

    Exporting individual templates is broken on WordPress.com at the moment, but there is an open bug report for it.

    That said, there’s currently no way to import single templates, so even if you were able to export one, you won’t be able to do anything with it :D

    From some Core issues I was able to find, it looks like that option was originally just built in to make testing and development easier for the people working on FSE, so it’s not a fully-developed feature yet. But this is something the Core team is currently looking at, so hopefully it will turn into something useful for us regular users in the not too distant future :)
