  Hallo guys.

  This is the first time I am building a website so please help me out.
  I bought a domain from godaddy and opted the premium plan with WordPress because I want to build a very basic e-commerce website. Now when I am trying install a new theme, it’s asking for FTP so I have no idea about it. So is FTP required to build a basic e-commerce website? If yes please tell me how to make an FTP account so that I can proceed with the websit.

  wordpress.com doesn’t have FTP-access for security reasons, https://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/. So it looks you are building your site at Godaddy using the selfhosted wordpress.org. Their support is at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/.

  FTP access is not provided on WordPress.com for security reasons.

  For sites hosted on WordPress.com, the users don’t have the need to run updates and there is no FTP access.
  

  Keeping in mind your query in the above post, it sounds to me like you’re having a self-hosted WordPress site. I know it might all seem confusing, but there are 2 versions of WordPress. This page outlines some of the major differences: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
