Full Blog Post Not Showing

  • Unknown's avatar

    My client’s most recent blog post is showing as a summary on the main blog page, while the other posts below it are showing as full posts. The entire post will show when it’s clicked, however they have a concern people won’t click all the way through since the blog isn’t on the home page (the blog is used to share their store’s specials, tips and activities).

    I’ve gone into the settings to see if the I can switch the view setting from summary to full, but it didn’t change the view. I then went back in and attempted to change it from full to summary (and clicked save) and it didn’t “keep” the requested change.

    Any thoughts on how to make it uniform. It would be ideal if the most current post is the full post, while previous posts are summaries. Thanks!

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Please familiarize yourself with the theme description page at http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/forever/
    and the live demo site for that theme at https://foreverdemo.wordpress.com/

    Also note that this setting > Setting > Reading is for the RSS Feed length only:
    For each article in a feed, show
    _Full text
    _Summary

    On any theme with an active excerpt box below the editor box you can use this workaround to have full posts on the front page. You compose your whole post first and before you publish it you switch to the HTML (Text) editor, copy all the code, paste it into the Excerpt box below the posts editor, and publish the post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/excerpts/#creating-excerpts

    If you do not see an excerpt box then go to screen options on the top right hand corner of your Admin page and include all the modules:
    Post – Likes and Shares, Format, Categories, Tags, Excerpt, Send Trackbacks, Discussion, Comments, Slug, Author, Revisions, Writing Helper

    P.S. On themes that do have an active excerpt function, the workaround works very well but you have to do it on every post you create. However, it doesn’t work with objects inserted via a shortcode (videos, polls, audio players etc). So, in short, if you want full posts you need a different theme.

    @sparrowsoirees,

    My client’s most recent blog post is showing as a summary on the main blog page, while the other posts below it are showing as full posts. The entire post will show when it’s clicked…

    This effect is probably a result of either adding the category “gallery,” or setting the post format on “gallery” style. You don’t have the category “gallery,” but you may have the format set on gallery style.

    See the recent thread “Continue reading?” for a fuller explanation of the issue. In that case, the theme being used was Twenty Ten, but the Forever theme also has post format options, one of which is “gallery.”

    Sorry. Here’s the link to the earlier thread: Continue Reading?

    @sparrowsoirees
    From the Theme Showcase page for the Forever theme:

    On the home page, posts with Featured Images assigned will display with the excerpt, whereas posts without Featured Images will display the full content. http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/forever/

    Please return to what I posted above at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/full-blog-post-not-showing?replies=4#post-2158987

    @timethief,

    Sorry. You were right, it is caused by the feature image in this case.

    But the gallery format setting also has the same effect. To be certain, I just tested a post with the Forever theme activated, with and without the gallery format setting, on an inactive blog. Assigning the category “gallery,” however, doesn’t have this effect on the Forever theme, as it does on Twenty Ten.

    Hi there, :)
    Whether or not full posts are displayed on the front page, main posts page or on the dynamic Tags, Categories and Archives pages is theme specific. And I’m thinking that there could be better theme choice than a wedding theme choice that could made for that content, but that, of course, is up to the client.

    BTW I do know about that Staff identified in the thread you linked to https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/continue-reading-10?replies=10#post-2157464 and it is a good one to bookmark. tx

    Thanks all!! It was the featured image – once that was removed, the entire post was shown from the site’s blog page.

    You’re welcome and best wishes.

    What an odd thing for a theme to do. Sometimes I wish designers would add notes on why they made certain choices.
