I’ve never had that issue. I use full dashes and em dashes all the time from my Mac. If you are on Windows, I don’t know what to tell you since I’ve never done them from Windows.
Are you perhaps pasting from MS Word or another program such as that?
-
I’ve also not had that issue — on a Mac: — option-shift –
You can use html codes:
‑ {small dash} – – – {en dash} — — — {em dash} ― ― {long dash} -
i’m on a mac. it happens both when i copy and past from MS word and when i use them within WordPress proper. i did manage to copy/paste a full em dash today from MS word, which was a first, so maybe its an old issue thats since been resolved. it’s a wonder why WordPress doesn’t support such a simple function, though.

I use the — on my macs all the time.
Probably more than proper!Forever — is composed of Nows —
‘Tis not a different time —
Except for Infiniteness —
And Latitude of Home —
…Hold down “option” and “shift” as you press ‘ -‘
that is the key next to the +/= key. -
GAK! :-((
my codes for the various dashes in html are a mess! See here:

sorry?
I was referring to the previous:

This procedure works on Macs:
“Hold down “option” and “shift” as you press ‘ -‘
that is the key next to the +/= key.” -
Why when I double space after a period on Notepad, it shows up as only a single space on my blog? You’re suppose to single space after a coma and double space after a period. Now that’s annoying!

Hi psb!
I took a typing class in High School, and worked in a print shop for several years after college. Yes: a single space after a coma and and double space after a period (full stop)). Yes that was the rule. But online the rule has changed: single space after bothe ‘,’ and ‘.’ —odd as it seems…
