full name as link to blog–in lieu of URL: feasible?
-
aloha sacred path…
In the interest of increasing blog readership, I would wish to add my blog link to comments I may add at, e.g., Antiwar.com’s website. However, in lieu of adding the URL I would like to add my first and last name with the proviso that it link to my blog as if it were the URL.
If this is possible please advise as to protocol.
thanks to one and all this late Saturday (west coast)/early Sunday…

I’m not Sacred Path, but I’m waiting on another reply to my own question, and since I know the answer to this one, I’m going to butt in, with all due respect to Sacred Path *waves to him*.
A guy named Stephen Parrish taught me this, so I’m just pasting it for you the way he gave it to me.
The general form is:
where SITE is the URL, the address you want to link to, and TEXT is what you want to call the link.
A simple example is:
Visit my website.
Which will look like this:
Visit my website.
If you put your cursor over the word “website” you’ll see the URL appear right above it.
The example in Janet’s comments was typed in like this:
Do what you do best. Something inspirational like this or this or maybe even this.
Note that I didn’t actually type in the URLs; I copied and pasted them from the Windows address bar. Note also that normally when you click on the link the new page will fill your screen. But Janet has chosen the option on Blogger to have her comments appear in a pop-up window. So the links appear there too, unfortunately. It’s best to turn that option off, but not everyone agrees with me.
Does that help?

Oh, dear. I see everything between the < > marks failed to show up. Give me a second, and I’ll try this again…

I am going to change the < > marks to parenthesis so you’ll see what’s happening, but you’ll have to change them back when you use this “formula,” ‘kay?
The general form is:
(a href=”SITE”)TEXT(/a)
where SITE is the URL, the address you want to link to, and TEXT is what you want to call the link.
A simple example is:
Visit my (a href=”http://www.stephenparrish.com/”)website(/a).
Which will look like this:
Visit my website.
Easy enough. Try it out, and give a shout if you have further questions about it. Sorry about the mix-up at first.

If you did that on my blog, I’d delete it without a second thought as spam.
What you want to do depends on whether it’s a WP.com blog or not. If it is, you can change your nickname (on your Profile Page: first you add the name you want, then save, then go back and select that name from the drop-down menu and save again). Then all over WP.com except the forum and your dashboard you’ll see your NEW nickname.
If it’s not a WP.com blog, you can just leave name/URL of your choice. Do NOT stick a link to your own blog in the comment unless it’s a direct link to a post of yours that you think fits with the discussion going on, like if they’re discussing dogs and you blogged about one of the dogs mentioned, you can say “Don’t mean to be self-promotional, but I’ve got a sweet post up about Lassie’s gay scandal HERE” or whatever.
Do not, please, EVER put “Read my blog” and a link. That’s just spam, and you’re not the kind of person who’d spam, are you?
