Full refund
-
I purchased the $99 premium account yesterday, April 10th and I cancelled it today, but got an email saying $73 would be refunded. I read that if I cancelled within 48 hours, it would be a full refund. Why did my email say $73 for the refund?

jillbarela, in cast you haven’t been told the missing $26 is payment for your domain name, if you signed up for one with WordPress.
The same thing happened to me. When I finally got with someone at their limited “Live Chat” they explain that if they cancel the domain name as well you won’t be able to purchase it anywhere else for months, and there would be a chance someone else would notice your interest in the name and snatch it up to sell to you at a higher price.

I will say that it is a common problem that people cancel a domain and then are surprised that it cannot be registered again elsewhere directly after cancellation. But that isn’t the way that domain registrations work, I’m afraid. The registrar hold onto the domain for a while as an anti-fraud measure. And yes, even after it is released, it can be snatched up by domain squatters before you have a chance to register it again.
So we try to discourage people from canceling. That said, perhaps we can do better at explaining the situation.
