Full site edit vs. Elementor
-
Good day, I’m pretty new to WP and have lost on custom site header creation. The situation is this,
– I’ve choosen FSE compliant template and created basic pages, menu etc.
– edited site header and footer using basic full site edit (no plugins used yet)
The header is not sufficient (I need advanced positioning limited by FSE).
Then installed Elementor and Elementor Header and Footer Builder.
Now I was able to create desired header using Header and Footer Builder plugin, but I’m not able to integrate it into main template (on preview, the default header is not replaced). The builder plugin has two integration methods, the second one injects the Elementor header into pages, but the layout is broken.
I’ve given up with H&F builder and now trying to create standard template part that can replace the template header using Elementor (as Elementor > Templates > Create New), I get exactly this error:
.It seems it’s due to conflict of Elementor and my FSE-template (if I choose any old-style template, I’m allowed to enter the Elementor editor).
The question is how can I achieve this variant:
– have all pages and standard page template made in full site editor, obeying all template styling
– have just header made in Elementor (preferably based on template styling, not required)
– have footer made in full site editor (template styling) -
Hi there, I only see one WordPress.com site under your account here, but Elementor is not in use there.
Would you please share the URL of the site you’re referring to?
Once we know that, we should be able to help or at least direct you to the folks who can.

Unfortunately I don’t have domain yet. Using localhost software for WP emulation.
However you can easily reproduce the problem on any clean WP installation:1. install a FSE theme (fort this case Bricksy).
2. install Elementor Page Builder plugin.
3. Try to add custom header as described above (Elementor > Saved Templates > Create Template > Template type: HeaderNow you get the error.
I’ve read several articles about fixing the bug, suggesting to edit default page template.php and insertthe_content();line somewhere betweenget_header();andget_footer();functions. The problem with these WP templates is they have no auxiliary file using any of these functions, ie. I don’t know where to insert. -
Ah, ok, that is a self-hosted WordPress.org site, which we can’t help with here.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/
WordPress.org has complete documentation for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress.org at https://wordpress.org/support/ and support at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
And you can find Elementor’s support at https://elementor.com/support/
