full size images on main page?
-
Hi all,
new wordpress user here, loving it so far! Have hit a minor problem. I want to display some 320px x 480px images in full on my post and for some reason it wont. In settings/misc i have set thumbnail size to 320 x 480 but on the post page it shows about 2 thirds of that (it slices some of the width off). Strange behaviour !
How do i get these images shown in full? -
I guess you can fix that in the html-editor, but mind that it could mess up the design of the theme you are using.

So you went to Settings > Media and changed the number and clicked Save Changes?
Maybe the theme you’re using isn’t wide enough. Can you place your blog link starting off with http: first?
-
Yup sure it’s
http://www.freeiphonewallpaperblog.com/and you can see how the first 3 images overlap and then the 4th on a line of its own does exactly what i would like them all to do!
-
That’s because you chose to upload the images as a gallery (which you needn’t have done), and the default setting for gallery images is 3 in a row. Go to your post editor and change
[gallery]
to
[gallery columns="1"]
if you want all your images the one below the other, or
[gallery columns="2"]
if you want them in two pairs.Note that you can easily rearrange the order of the images, if you need to (click “Add an Image”, click “Gallery”, drag images into new positions, click “Save all changes”)”.

Also, that blog is self-hosted, so you need to inquire about problems with it over at http://wordpress.org/support/ since the software we use here is different, and few, if any here know anything about it.

@siberia77: You’re welcome – but for the future please take note of thesacredpath’s advice.

I found this reply really helpful! Thanks especially to panaghiotisadam. However, now I have an addendum question:
First, I set my gallery columns to 2. Works great.
Then, I set my thumbnails to a larger size, currently 300×400, but that only works for portrait-oriented pictures. I have both portrait and landscape images in my gallery, so they overlap and the landscape images are cut off. Is it possible to set a thumbnail size for landscape images as well as portait images?
Also, is there a way to have two gallery portrait images show up next to one another in 300×400 size, but then have a column underneath that only has one landscape-oriented image, say 400×300, and so on?
Thanks!

1. You’ve got a misunderstanding re. the thumbnail size settings. You say you’ve set your thumbnails to 300×400 and that this only works for portrait-oriented pictures. But these two numbers don’t mean your images become 300×400: they define how wide and how high you allow your thumbnails -ALL thumbnails- to be. So, since you’ve set a smaller number for the width, your landscape images get scaled down to a greater degree than your portrait ones. If you want landscape and portrait images to appear similar, the two numbers must be EQUAL.
2. To me the gallery feature is still very problematic. It’s merit is batch processing, and this works well only with similar images (so that they all fit well within a general arrangement of, say, the number of images per row). If you want two images in one row, one in the next, three in the next etc., you’d better forget about the gallery and upload the images the normal way, which allows more detailed and individual handling.
