Full-width image display on posts and pages

    Hello there,
    I want to display full-size pictures in my posts and pages. They should at least stretch to the full width of the text column on the screen if not the full screen.
    But currently, I am unable to do so. Even when I select a full-width display on images, the pics remain small size compared to the text width. This does not look good aesthetically.
    Would be grateful if you can help me resolve this issue.
