Functions file on Balasana theme

I need to install Google Tag Manager on my page, and since I’m using the free version, I can’t use plug-ins.

It looks like the best way to solve this is to use the functions.php file, but I can’t find that in the appearance menu. (I need to put the code in the <head> and <body> tags.

Does anyone know how to access it, or more directly, how to install Google Tag Manager without plug-ins in the Balsana theme (or another theme to which I could easily switch)?

  • You’ll need a paid Business or eCommerce plan to modify theme files like that.

You’ll need a paid Business or eCommerce plan to run Google ads, in case that’s what you’re trying to do.

    Thanks for the reply!

I just want to be able to install Google Tag Manager, not run Google Ads.

Is there an unpaid theme available where I would be able to install GTM?

  • Hi there,

To be able to run install Google Tag Manager on a WordPress.com-hosted site you need to upgrade to the Business or eCommerce plan.

Alternatively, you can use a different hosting provider and install the WordPress software. Here are some suggestions:
