Funny icon

I am trying my best to learn as much as possible. The only way I can be successful in setting up my blog in WordPress is by asking questions. I am seeing an icon on the extreme right hand corner: it looks like a tiny sun. May I ask, what is the purpose of this icon? The reason why I am asking is, everytime I click on it, I get a blank page with a loading icon…………………..
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This little face on your posts indicates that your blog is being viewed. Every time you see her (she is affectionately known as Angela by the WP community) it counts as a ‘hit’. I hope that answers your question. But as Raincoaster points out, please provide a link to your blog in future so helpers can view it and answer your questions accurately.

@theslysilverfox – you should link your username to your current blog as it’s still linking to your deleted one. If you read #2 in this page, you’ll find out how:
Where are you seeing the ‘tiny sun’ icon? Are you seeing it on your blog or on your dashboard or on the home page? (The home page is the one you reach by clicking any of the options from the dropdown menu accessed by clicking the little ‘W’ icon on the grey admin strip at the top of any page when you’re logged in.)
I’m wondering if it’s the little cog-like icon on the home page at the top far right, which should open up your account and other settings (WordPress.com are annoyingly moving some things from the dashboard to the home page, hopefully not to replace the dashboard but we have our suspicions that it might be). The reason I wonder if it’s that is some people are having problems seeing their Reader (where some people read blogs they are subscribed to (following) and instead see a loading icon that never completely loads.
@jessie – slysilverfox’s URL is http://specialspice.wordpress.com and I’m not sure she was referring to ‘Angela’ as it’s not a clickable link and is generally in the centre of the home page at the bottom.

And the stats smiley is not “affectionately known as Angela by the WP community”: it’s only called like that by a few members who cling to an old joke.

@jessielansdel
There was nothing wrong with your answer or based on your guess about what the OP meant. You intended to help and there’s nothing wrong about that. -
I’m sorry if I’ve upset anyone. Its just that I’ve always known the little face as ‘Angela’ since starting here last September. Again, my mistake.

Right. I just wanted to set the record straight, and the matter is too trivial to upset anyone.

Absurdoldbird, I believe you are correct. According to this link, the funny icon is supposed to update the account settings:
http://learn.wordpress.com/get-acquainted/
But I always press it and nothing happens! This is why I was asking what was the purpose of the funny icon.
Anyway, thanks for your help and the tip about linking my username to my current blog. *Sigh* So much to learn!

I’m the one whose joke got criticized. “Angela” is quicker to type than “that little smiley thing that confuses people so much and is part of the stats system,” so I stand by her. There’s no shame in being part of the institutional memory, even in a tech field.
-
And the reason nothing happens when you click on Angela is, she’s not a link, she’s just an image. When ever that image is loaded into a browser, it counts as one hit.
-
I didn’t criticize the joke, rain! I only pointed out that the name is used by very few members, not by “the WP community”.
