Fusion sidebar

  • Unknown's avatar

    When I first opened Fusion in preview, there were two widgets showing in the sidebar – categories and archives. Each was framed at the top with a separate, shadowed background top frame. Unfortunately, I am unable to reproduce the ‘look’ now.
    It’s my guess that the

    #sidebar .box h2.title {
      background: transparent url(/wp-content/themes/pub/fusion/images/side-box-top.png) no-repeat left bottom;
      padding: 4px 0 4px 20px;
      color: #8d8b8b;
      margin: 20px 0 0 0;
    }

    code is relevant; but I know very little and am in all probability quite wrong about that.
    I should like to be able to frame every item in the sidebar in this fashion, and seek advice on how to achieve that, please.

    Hi M.R., are you talking about the white part that extends up into the header area? I’m seeing that on your site now. If I missed what you were asking about, let me know. :)

  • Unknown's avatar

    It isn’t that simple.
    (1) Yes, I’m talking about the extended part at the top; but
    (2) When I first previewed Fusion, the sidebar showed two widgets (neither of which I was using on my then current theme), EACH framed at the top by a “lifted” area with shadows.
    I have no way of reproducing this effect to provide an example; and would suggest that only if someone else were to preview Fusion might one be seen.

    M.R., I Previewed Fusion on my test site and that styling is no longer in the theme CSS. I can only assume that is being pulled in from the theme files for the widget demo.

    Give me a bit to work things out and I’ll see if I can’t get that styling back for you.

    Have I made myself sufficiently clear, then – I know I am very bad at that.

  • Unknown's avatar

    You absolutely have. No worries.

    M.R. see what you think with this. It doesn’t work on all widgets since some of the content is wider than the widget area (which we can fix) but look at it in general.

    #sidebar .widget {
        background: url("/wp-content/themes/pub/fusion/images/side-box-bg.png") repeat-y scroll left bottom transparent;
    }
    #sidebar h2.title {
        background: url("/wp-content/themes/pub/fusion/images/side-box-top.png") no-repeat scroll left bottom transparent;
    }
    #sidebar ul {
        padding-left: 20px !important;
    }
    #sidebar .widget h2.title {
        padding-left: 20px;
    }

    Rich, the most interesting thing is that the 2 widgets I saw on their – archives and categories – are showing it to perfection, just as I saw them originally !
    It does move everything to the right a bit, eh …?
    So I’ll go to flexible and see the effect that way.
    You are VERY kind !
    BBRS …

  • Unknown's avatar

    Yes, definitely better in full width|flexible.
    What if I remove all the other widgets, make narrower those that contain images, and re-post them all ?
    That’s what I’m going to do, anyway !
    :D
    Off to attempt to match your good work with some of my own … and with sincere thanks !

    Having now removed all widgets but the two that were originally on the site when I previewed Fusion (and that have now accepted your coding without problem), there’s just that little shadow above and to the left of the second widget.
    I fear that it may replicate as I rebuild the others.
    I shall go on doing so anyway, Rich – I’m drawing it to your attention while it’s easy to see, I guess.
    But as it’s nearly 11 chez vous, I would expect you to be on your way to bed, having long since chivvied the rest of the family to do just that. So we can do some more on this tomorrow, yes …?

    On the archives widget, remove this rule from your CSS.

    #archives-2.widget.widget_archive {
        padding-top: 15px;
    }

    The other widgets in your sidebar are looking alright to me. If I missed something else, let me know. :)

  • Unknown's avatar

    THAT’S IT ! of course. :-)
    I haven’t finished ’em all yet’ and the ones that involve an image are proving a bit tricky.
    But you have enough of a break to draw breath, anyway, Rich …
    Thank you very much !

    The colours have beaten me, Rich.
    With apologies for the work you so kindly did for me, I realize that to be able to do everything I want to ‘Fusion’, I would just keep on calling on you.
    I don’t want to do that.
    I want to have you in reserve for important problems, not for simple developmental ones.
    I hope you are sleeping the sleep of the just, and not grinding your teeth; for you will certainly want to grind them upon awakening and returning to the fray …
    :/
