Fuzzy Header

Hi, I’m new to WordPress (and thinking about using it for a new blog!)
I’m having a difficult time adding a custom title to the Under the Influence theme. I’d like to get rid of the default font and add the title of my blog using a different font. No matter what I use ( i.e. JPG, GIF), it always uploads very fuzzy and looks nothing like the original.

Is there a trick to this? Thanks. :)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The blog linked to your username has been deleted. Please post tan active link to the blog in question starting with http://

Regarding the fuzzy header we cannot see because we have no link to the blog, please note that the best image quality will be maintained if and only if you optimize the image and presize it to the exact header specification sizes before you upload it. If the cropper is brought into play then image quality will be lost.

I’m sorry but there isn’t a free and easy way to change fonts. If you are expecting to be able to click a button and change fonts throughout your blog then it’s not that easily done. Any font changes to font families, colors and size in the blog title, tagline, post titles, page titles cannot be done without CSS editing.

There are 4 ways to change fonts on wordpress.com blogs.

    (1) Changing font families, colors and size in text in posts or pages either post by post or page by page by coding into the HTML editor. http://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/font-size-color/

    (2) Changing font colors in text in posts or pages either post by post or page by page using the #4 icon (Select text color – change the text color) in Row 2 the Visual editor. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#row-2

    (3) Changing font families (not colors or sizes) using TypeKit Fonts. http://typekit.assistly.com/customer/portal/articles/6840-using-typekit-with-wordpress-com

    (4) Changing all font families, colors and sizes throughout the blog by purchasing an annually renewable CSS editing upgrade and doing the work yourself. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-css/

You have to create the header image in the exact dimensions required for the theme you are using so that wordpress does not resize and crop it. And if you want your text to be clear, the best file format is PNG since it does not anti-alias. PNG is not the best for photographic images though, so if the main image is a photograph with text imposed over the top of it, you will just have to give PNG a try and see how it works with your particular image. JPG is of course best for photographs.

    Hi timethief and thesacredpath,
Thanks for the replies. I’m sorry my blog isn’t showing up, I changed it’s title, but my name is still appearing as the one I first chose.
My blog’s name is ‘the Loquacious Lime’. As of now I have it set on private (I want to iron out all the details before going public.)
What I’m trying to do is get rid of the default ‘Under the Influence’ theme header, and actually upload ‘the Loquacious Lime’ in the way I wrote it out using the Picnik program. Sacredpath, do you know how I can find the dimension needed for ‘Under the Influence’? For some reason it looks clear in the WordPress crop window, but once I apply it to my blog, it’s large and out of focus. Would saving it as a PNG work better, even though it’s only text?

Thanks again for your help on this. I’m still very clumsy when it comes to figuring out WordPress…but I like what I see so far. :-)

    Cheers.

The dimensions are listed on the appearance > header page.

If it is text only, it most definitely will look better in PNG. Just make sure to create the header in the exact size and then save it as a PNG.

*Edit* I found the needed dimensions! Apparently I shouldn’t attempt reading instructions late at night, or else I miss things that are literally right in front of me. :-D

Thank you both so much for your help!

    Hello WP team,
I’m having the same issue with the fuzzy header. I created my header using powerpoint and one using Word. I enlarged the image enough so that it wouldn’t loose the quality of the image. I don’t know how to change the pixel size in PP or Word. Is there another program recommended to create my header image (even if it’s just text) so that it’s not fuzzy?

Thank you so much for all your help!!!

I use Open Office Draw and or Gimp for graphics things – both open source
