G Suite Confusion!

  • Unknown's avatar

I have gotten myself all confused, and possibly messed up here… I was toying around with G Suite, and did what I think was signed up for a trial through google, while also spending the $50 to subscribe through WordPress. I just received an email yesterday that said my free trial was going to expire – and long story short, doing what I thought would get things straightened out I deleted the account – now I’m having trouble getting it all set up through wordpress where I purchased it.

I hope that makes sense. I just can’t get my G Suite set up now!

  • Hello there,

Sorry to hear you are having some trouble with connecting your G suite account to your WordPress, I will be happy to help you with sorting this out!

I just received an email yesterday that said my free trial was going to expire – and long story short, doing what I thought would get things straightened out I deleted the account

To clarify, the free trial you are referring to, is the one from G suite, and this is the account you deleted? If so, it sounds like you will need to go to G suite to set up a new account. Here is the link to do so: https://gsuite.google.com/ . I see that there is a 14 day free trial available, but after the 14 days you will then need to select one of their paid plans to continue using their service, or you can select a paid plan immediately. This payment to G suite has nothing to do with the payment you make here with WordPress.com to connect your G suite to your domain).

After you set up your G suite account, you should now be able to add it to your domain here on WordPress.com, using the steps in these support docs: https://en.support.wordpress.com/add-email-through-g-suite/
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-g-suite-to-your-site/

I am going to go ahead and modlook this thread so that staff can confirm that the steps I am suggesting to you will help resolve your issue. Also, if you are unable to edit the email in the purchase you made or cancel your previous purchase on the WordPress side of things, staff will be able to assist here as well. They have account access that volunteers such as myself do not :)

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with

So, to clarify – I need to pay both WordPress and Google to use the service?

  • Yes, if you want to specifically use G suite, which is a paid email service.

That explains the issue – not exactly what I thought it would be. $50 a year I could justify, $100 not so much. I appreciate the help!

  • Hi –

Do you want me to restore the G Suite subscription on drinkingwiththegnome.com?

There are other free options that you can use to set up a custom email address as well. Take a look at those on https://en.support.wordpress.com/add-email/

No, thank you. I appreciate the help, but will look into some other options! For now the email forwarding to a standard gmail account should work fine.

    Again, thanks for the help!
