Galleries no longer possible?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello, I used to present my photos on my wordpress-blog in galleries. A few weeks ago the gallery function disappeared. Since then I can only paste the photos in columns, one below the other. Also I can no longer adjust the size individually but only in three big steps. As a result the photos in an upright format are either too big or too small. Is there a chance to change back to the former possibilities of customizing? Thank you and regards from Germany

    Hello Harald,

I assure you that the WordPress.com gallery options have not disappeared. You should be able to create galleries in the same way that you created the one in the post #Mother’s Finest. Osnabrück, 11.09.2016. What happens when you attempt to create a gallery?

    Hello doc,

thank you for your reply. I recently tried to create a gallery exact the same way as with the gallery “Mother’s Finest” you mentioned. I use wordpress in German so I don’t know the exact phrases in English but I’ll try to describe how I did it: I open a new document, click on “add further media” (my translation), than I upload my selection of photos. At this point I formerly could choose how to present the selected photos. For example I could click on the word “Gallery”. After that I could arrange my photos, change the sequence and their position just as I liked it. Than I published it by clicking on that according icon. As of late that feature “Gallery” disappeared. It’s simply no longer there. I myself didn’t change anything until yesterday when I installed a new Theme to check if the former one caused the problem. But nothing changed. Should I say the new Theme shows the same error?
And, as mentioned, another thing does no longer work like before. Normally I could define the size of a picture by clicking on the frame. Than a task menu appeard where I could comment the picture and define the size arbitrary by numbers. Now I see only two icons, a “+” and a “-“. With them I can change the size of the picture but only in three huge steps. The smallest setting brings the picture to the size of a stamp, the middle setting sometime shows the picture too big to fit in the layout of my Themes, the former one as well as the new one I installed yesterday.
I did some research on the internet about these changes but couldn’t find any information at all.
So I’m very happy that you answered my request. Perhaps there is a solution to these two problems?
Please excuse my not so proper English. Thank you in advance and my best regards

    Harald

    Harald,

I see what you mean. Because I normally use the WP admin post and page editors, which haven’t had a recent modification with regard to gallery creation, I hadn’t noticed this change.

I don’t know when it was modified, but it appears that WordPress.com has simplified the process on the My Sites page and post editors as follows:

    1. If after clicking the Add Media button, you select a single image from the media library, the options at the bottom right of the editor are “Cancel” or “Insert.” This allows you to insert one image into a post, without it being added to the post’s gallery.

    2. If instead you select two or more images — and they will be numbered when you click on them to select them — then the options at the bottom right are “Cancel” or “Continue.” If you want to create a gallery then click “Continue.”

    3. After clicking “Continue,” the selected images are displayed on a new module with (gallery) Layout, Order, and Link to options at the top right, and “Cancel” and “Insert” options at the bottom right.

They seem to have combined the options of inserting images and creating a gallery, AND removed the word gallery from the process. Nevertheless I was able to create galleries just as before using the new process. I notice also that the ability to insert more than one image at a time without it going into a gallery has been eliminated. Not sure if that modification occurred at the same time as the change regarding gallery creation.

Thank you very much. I didn’t see the solution myself. It worked. But I must say I’m not happy with those mentioned modifications. Never mind.
