Galleries that look like one image

I have done multiple searches on both this forum and on Google, and have not come up with an answer. Which probably means that I am not asking the question correctly. Pray forgive me.
What I want to achieve is an image with either multiple icons, or simply different sections, where if you click one spot, you go to one link, and if you click another spot (or icon) in the image, you go to another link. And, of course, I can’t find any sites that do this right now.
I’m thinking this could be achieved by using a gallery that blends images together, and my actual plan would be to use a 2×2 grid with a fifth picture in the center. Each picture would go to someplace different on the site. Does anybody know the correct language for this idea? Or how I would configure a Jetpack or other gallery to achieve this effect? (And, no, I don’t write code, yet.)

you’ll probably need to find a plugin or a theme that would allow you to achieve that. Since your site is not hosted with WordPress.com (it is a site using the open-source WordPress software from WordPress.org but hosted elsewhere), you’ll want to look for help at the community forums here: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/.
Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers.
