https://doctorcookies.wordpress.com doesn’t exist
We provide support here only for WordPress.COM hosted blogs.
We do not provide support for WordPress.ORG software installs.WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
I’m sorry but we cannot provide accurate answers to any blogger who fails to provide the exact URL starting with http:// for the exact blog they refer to so we can verify where it is hosted. Please do that now.

I have been to zuki support and have not received help.
Please advise. Thanks very much.

I’m not exactly sure what you feel is set up wrong on your site. Is it the slider at the top of the site? If so, the support doc tt pointed to says this
The Front Page Featured Posts Slider
To show the Featured Post slider at the top of your front page, choose a specific tag and assign it to up to 10 posts that you want to display in your slider. Add the tag you selected under Appearance → Customize → Featured Content. The Featured Images for posts in the slider MUST to be 1200px wide by 800 px high. Since the Featured Images are quite big, you should make sure that your images are a reasonable file size. You can reduce your image size by compressing and saving them at a lower quality.
If your featured images don’t meet that size requirement, they won’t show up in that Post slider.
If that wasn’t it, could you please explain a little more?

Thanks for your response, JJ. The gallery on my front page, created by inserting a gallery widget, I feel is not as attractive as the doctorcookies.com front page gallery. Mine has the black background and it operates differently. The arrow toggles to advance/photos are imbedded bottom/center and overlay the photos as opposed to doctorcookies which has “>” “<” toggles to the left/right of the image to advance or go back to a prior photo.
Thanks for the explanation on how doctorcookies is pulling her images. My photos were uploaded and in a photo gallery. I’m not sure that makes a difference though in how the slider works; does it? Can I get the appearance I desire using photos that are dropped in and sit in a photo gallery?
I feel I’m missing (not understanding) something. Apologies if I am being dense about this as my experience level is not where it needs to be.
Your help is very much appreciated.

There is a big difference between inserting a Gallery slideshow (which is what it looks like you have since added) and using a theme’s Post Slider. See my answer above to get the Post Slider on Zuki up and running.
Also, please see the theme’s full documentation, that tt pointed to above, which may also help you:

Thank you Jennifer, I think I see where my disconnect is. I had assumed the “post slider” featured was some sort of gallery widget and that was clearly not correct. I had deleted the gallery because I was not happy with it and then added it back in when you responded so you could see what I had done and where I was going wrong: the post slider does not act like a gallery slide show; they are different things.
I’ll explore the documentation further. What I’d like to do ideally is show in a post slider some photos that are not necessarily tied to posts. I wrote a book about the origin story of the Beach Boys and want to show visitors some images photos. I’ll explore the post slider and see what other options there might be to accomplish this goal. If you have any further thoughts, I’ll gladly take advice. But you’ve really helped me sort some things out that have been frustrating me. I am sincerely grateful!

You’re very welcome.
The Post Slider will only pick up the Featured Images in your Posts, so if you want to show extraneous photos, then a Page with a Gallery could do the job for you.
My personal opinion is that if you have a lot of photos to share, better a “static” Gallery of images using any of the Gallery types other than Slideshow, so that when your site visitors click on one image the Photo Carousel opens and they can manually scroll through all the images.
While the Gallery Slideshow type is nice, the loading time may be longer than your site visitors are willing to wait before the first image shows up. I’m not sure if this is a temporary problem with the slideshow or not, but other users have reported this recently. Just an FYI.
I do realize that there is a lot of information to take in and digest when setting up a site. To add to your meal, I’ve got more info about using the Gallery feature on my site, if you want to have a look: https://gammagirl.wordpress.com/2008/07/27/not-the-official-wordpresscom-gallery-faq/
Let me know if you have any more questions and I’ll do my best to help.

More terrific information to digest. So appreciative of your time to help. I’ve seen others posting similar Qs on the forum but none have answered as directly and with as much further reading information so I know this will help others as well. Thank you!
