Gallery block doesn’t alloew images to open in new tab/page

    If I make a “Gallery” block to contain multiple images, I can click the link button on each image to specify “Link to image file”, and “Open in new tab”. However, when I view the page preview and click on those images, they open in the *same* tab. When I do that procedure on an “Image” block image, it works fine — opens in a new tab. What’s wrong with the Gallery block? Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Hi there,

    I tested this on my end by inserting a link on each image in the Gallery block, and the links opened in a new tab as expected. This makes me think the option to open links in a new tab might not have been enabled on your side.

    Here are the steps you can follow to set it up:

    1. Click on the image you want to add the link to in the Gallery block.
    2. Click on the link icon and paste the link.
    3. Click on the back arrow icon to apply the link.
    4. Click on the dropdown arrow next to the back arrow.
    5. Toggle on Open in new tab.

    Please give these steps a try, and let me know if the links open in a new tab afterward.

    Thank you for the quick response, sir. Yes, I had the images set to “Open in new tab”. You can see this on a test page I made, https://brianlair.wordpress.com/test-page/, and in the screenshots below.

    Below are screenshots of the settings for each image on that page. The first two images are part of a Gallery block, and the third image is simply an Image block. The Gallery photos open in the same tab when clicked, whereas the Image photo opens in a new tab, as desired.

    I also turned on the “Open images in new tab” switch in the Gallery settings panel (see fourth screenshot, below). I’ve tried it with this switch both on and off, with the same result — the Gallery images still open in the same tab.

    Thoughts, anyone? Thanks in advance.
