Gallery & Chrome 120

    We’ve noted that JetPack’s image carousel is not working with Chrome 120. We have tested on multiple sites and observed that one an image is clicked on an the carousel goes full screen, the navigation and close buttons do not work (are not clickable), the user is therefore stuck – unless they modify the URL manually and then reload the page.

    Any help would be appreciated, confirmed against WordPress 6.4.2, JetPack 12.9 & Chrome 120.0.6099.71 (multiple platforms). Earlier versions of Chrome appear unaffected.

    Hello!

    I appreciate you getting in touch. It seems like the issue you’re experiencing is related to the latest version of Chromium browsers, specifically with the Gallery and Carousel features. The good news is that the Jetpack team, responsible for these features, is actively addressing the problem and has an open issue about it on GitHub: https://github.com/Automattic/jetpack/issues/34657

    While I don’t have a specific timeframe for the fix, any updates regarding the progress will be shared in the GitHub issue mentioned above.
