Gallery Glitch
-
I originally attempted to post individual images that linked to individual blog posts – unfortunately, there was no way to set up the alignment so the images appeared in a “grid-like” form and they seemed to all be randomly placed on the website side. I resorted to a “gallery” set up, but even when I select “None” for the link to the image and include the link to the individual blog page in the caption – it still OPENS the image. I want the image to basically be a thumbnail-type button and not OPEN when you click on it. Ideally I’d like the user to just be able to click on the picture and have that take them directly to the blog page, but that was not possible. PLEASE PLEASE :) PRETTY PLEASE, make it so that there is some way to solve this issue. Thank you!

Hi there. What you’re trying to do is not a glitch, it’s not possible. You can’t make gallery images link to individual posts. There is a workaround you can find here: https://agallerydemo.wordpress.com/2012/07/28/gallery-as-an-index-page/
You can turn off the gallery carousel in your media settings: https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/media-settings/#image-gallery-carousel

When you choose the “Tiled Mosaic” gallery option as you have in this post, for example, your images appear in a tiled grid and open in a Carousel.
If you don’t want a tiled gallery, you can choose the “Thumbnail Grid” option instead. This will present you with a more traditional, non-tiled gallery layout. You can change the gallery type by clicking on the gallery and then clicking the pencil icon to edit it.
If you don’t want your images opening in the Carousel, you can turn off the option, as kokkieh suggests above.
Galleries across all of WordPress (including self-hosted sites) don’t let you link an image to a specific URL.
If you prefer not to use galleries so you can add links to your images, you can set up your own grid instead, using some columns you could make with HTML.
For example, very roughly, you’d add something like this would go in your post editor:
<div class="col1"> <a href="YOUR-LINK"><img src="YOUR-IMAGE-PATH" alt="your image description"></a> <a href="YOUR-LINK"><img src="YOUR-IMAGE-PATH" alt="your image description"></a> </div> <div class="col2"> <a href="YOUR-LINK"><img src="YOUR-IMAGE-PATH" alt="your image description"></a> <a href="YOUR-LINK"><img src="YOUR-IMAGE-PATH" alt="your image description"></a> </div>And then you’d add something like this to your custom CSS:
.col1 { float: left; width: 45%; } .col2 { float: right; width: 45%; }You may need to make adjustments to this HTML and CSS to get things looking exactly as you’d like. If you need help with that, you can post back here or in the CSS Customization forum:

This method requires more work than using WordPress’s built-in galleries but it would give you the flexibility you’re looking for to link your images to any URL you like.
