Gallery images not publishing correctly.

When I am editing the projects, the galleries show the images as two columns with spacing between (how I want it). I don’t mess with coding or anything like that, just using the block settings available. However, when I preview them (and when published), they become one column with no spacing between images. I’m not sure what to do, and am nervous to start messing with code in case I ruin everything. Thanks in advance!

One thing to be aware of is that the theme you are using (Orvis) is a bit unique in that it does not display galleries on the project pages. That is mentioned in the theme setup guide here, but it’s easy to miss so I wanted to highlight it:
People love full-size images of your work, so make sure any images you include are at least 924px wide. Orvis will extract your images, videos or galleries from the content and will display these at full width on larger screens on the single portfolio pages.
Essentially when you add images to a gallery, Orvis treats them as single images and displays them in one full-width column. With this in mind I’d recommend switching to a different theme, as there is not a way to make galleries work on Orvis in the way that you are hoping.
Since you are getting along so well with blocks currently, and happy with what you are seeing in the editor view, you may want to consider themes that are optimized for displaying blocks, such as https://wordpress.com/theme/mayland/hgreenphotography.wordpress.com
I also wanted to point out that you can customize the look of the main portfolio page (on any theme) by using the Blog Posts block, as shown in this video: https://d.pr/v/FLATGn

Ah, thank you very much! I guess I just didn’t understand how the Orvis theme works at all (first time using WordPress in general).
I will absolutely look into the other themes, and your screen capture video really helped a lot!
